Cervid: deer
And who said anything about keeping anything private trying to hide anything??? And who said anything about small farms verses big farms as to them having CWD and being open about it???

I only listened to about 2 hours of the auction yesterday and none so far today. In that short time I heard some farms speak DIRECTLY to their own animals status as far as quarantines. They didn't hide anything about their farms.

Each seller at auction can choose to discuss their farms status and I appreciate their openness. Without questions in my own mind answered I wouldn't bid on an animal. That's called smart business.

And who said that Apple Creek shouldn't do what's best for them??? I assume your talking about killing those does. I never said they shouldn't kill them. I asked where they stood on a live blood test after having gained the insight of this process.

Apple Creek for whatever reason decided to make a public statement about those 7 deer. That's cool. If there were rumors to kill ok. I never heard any. In fact when I read the post I was surprised they were affected because I didn't think they had bought much the last couple of years for the breeding farm since they are so large already.

They explained their reasoning for choosing to kill them instead of waiting 20 months. They had to in order to keep customers happy. Ok. I was hardly the only person who thought the timing was intended to hurt sellers at another auction companies sale.

But I am looking forward to hearing their thoughts on a blood test.

Cervid: Whitetail Deer

(40,40,40); I must have missed all these rumors that are supposed to have been floating around because I hadn't heard a single word spoken about any producers. In fact privacy and respect for those directly affected seems to be the general consensus (Quote)

(40,40,40); You were talking cwd here

(40,40,40); .

(40,40,40); You are talking about SOME of these deer farms im sure

(40,40,40); If they decided to tell the truth and do what was right for their farm without smoke and mirrors then good for them. * Maybe if more took that approach the world would be a better place. *If someone else loses a sale because a farm made an smart and honest business move somewhere else well thats how it goes i guess.

(40,40,40); Killing $150.000 worth of animals to keep your business free and viable sure sounds like somebody on Apple Creeks end paid the piper for this mess. * Hard to think someone like Scott and Apple Creek got to where they are without hard work and smart business moves like this one!

Thanks for being up front Apple Creek. News like this should be brought to everyone's attention immediately so people can protect themselves. Who would want to go to a auction and by an animal that could destroy their own farm. Best thing would be to wait it out see what happens then go forward. Roger how people stand is their own business not anyone else's. Where CWD is found should be everyone's business immediately so we can protect ourselves. Been a while since I been on here but I see some things never change same old people not minding their business

Yes it should be, and it is generally a big secret.* And until we get a live test it will be this way.* Test the animals and then business as usual.

Thank you Apple Creek for being transparent.* At this time a purchaser of an animal really has no idea where the seller stands in regards to the tracing going on.* And if you live in the same state and do not have to report animal movement until your yearly inspection this could be real problematic.*

Apple creek is not only a respectable Farm and their transparency shows this.....but is by far the Model every Deer Farm should try to follow.........their animals and customers are their top priority as they should be......the Farm is run by a man who has strong Christian morals and I know first hand he runs his farm with his faith leading his decisions! That says it all. Why anyone would question someone's timing, for announcing their decision, to do what they had to do regarding their quarantine is ridiculous! I agree Virgil, some things and some people will never change. Why do certain people always think there is a malicious intent to what everyone does or says? Hats off to you Apple Creek for doing what all Reputable Farms should be doing that are affected by the trace backs!!

This is the problem with our whole CWD program:

* The CWD program can be compared to the Salem Witch Trials. *There they drowned the witch, to prove she was not a witch. *We all see how that worked out !!! * *Why is that any different than our program, where we have to kill a deer to prove it doesn't have CWD. *We need a live test !!!!!

We have to thank Jim Moses for donating 5% of his Top 30 sales to the live test fund. *Hope this catches on.

*

On a very, very good note, Keith Warren raised enough money at the Top 30, to do a new updated version of "The Truth of CWD". * Keith has done a great job for us and be sure to drop him a note and thank him. *These programs he puts out on CWD, have been great for us, and are making the antis mad. *The truth needs to get out there. *The science is on our side. *He told me it would be on TV several times, and he was also going to do one on "fair chase" hunting.

How cool is that. *Does not surprise me coming from a guy the likes of Jim Moses. How about the the sale on the Exchange right now. I have a straw of Romeo up for grabs next week. I dont think 5% off the top of that sale would kill me! *Maybe Todd, or anybody really that can get names and emails, can send out emails asking for 5% of their take in Next weeks sale. *I know alot of the owners of those those lots have helped the industry many times and im sure would again.

In the farming world, *we had check-off's for about everything. *Our dairy, beef, hogs, corn, and soybeans. *I wouldn't mind a check-off on deer I sold at sales, if it went into a "war or research chest". * God knows we will need it. *

What if each State had a "CHECK OFF" Program were EVERY Buck sold generated $100. ? What IF Breeder sells to a Preserve that breeder Donates $100. from his check for each buck sold. Each Preserve donates $100. from each Buck bought and Preserve adds $100. to each Hunter that harvest a Buck ?

*

$300. generated Every Time a Buck is SOLD? Breeder,Preserve and Customers ALL working for the "Product".............WE ALL LOVE to Raise,Sell and Hunt ?

*

That way the "Donation" to help each State is evenly distributed to ALL ?

*

How BIG could that "WAR CHEST" get ??

Well my question for the group is how do we implement this? I have seen great ideas just kinda loose steam over time.... Who do we contact who is gonna head our fight for us? I like the idea of doe hunt give aways to folks who otherwise would be against us until they see what the real deal is. I love the idea of taking a percentage off the top or an amount from everyone involved in the sale of a buck to fund what needs desperately funded in our industry! I feel we need positive PR and a positive position with each and every State. I obviously don't have the answers but I'm on board!

NADeFA comes to mind as an organization that might be willing to head this movement to raise funds and promote the cervid industry. They seemed to be the largest organization we have and their only interest is cervids. They're not obligated to other farmed animals and exotics. The elk association only has a couple hundred members and the exotic association is spread pretty thin over dozens of other species.*This check-off type fund raiser could certainly raise the funds needed for research and even legal battles.

I would disagree. I believe there would need to be an group of members made.(All cervid producers that use any auction sites for any deer sales) Then there would need to be a secretary in charge of over seeing all monies made and made sure was put into a fund. When money was needed there would be a vote of such by the members as to where any money was spent. *Kinda like ACA but not just with 1 leader of states Assoc having a vote. All paying members would have a vote.

*

Or something like that. I dont think a group should be in charge of our money. We all have a say.*

'lucida sans unicode', 'lucida grande', Would 10 investors be willing to put up $20,000 to fund and develop *CWD blood test? Could CWD blood test be protected by patent? Would their be enough demand to recoup investment and receive profit? *Post your thoughts or if you would like to review in private feel free to contact me scott@applecreekwhitetails.com*
