Cervid: Small Deer Farmer

I usually don't comment on these articles, but I am sick and tired of reading the same old thing. It boils down to let's ( DNR / Game Commission )* kill as many healthy Deer and/or Elk as we can!!!! Maybe we can find a couple with CWD. That will make the public think we are doing something to stop the spread............ * Mean while the real killer EHD continues to Rear it's Ugly* Head.***

CWD , the political issue that hasn't made a presidential debate yet. It is difficult to keep reading the same old story. It is here , has been here for a long time , it's not going away anytime soon , it is just a matter of time and they will find a positive sample close to everywhere in the cervid range.

Cervid: mule deer, whitetail, elk, goats, bighorn & stone sheep

Are these wild elk that didn't have to go through the same CWD tests we game farmers have to when moved animals into the State.* If so it sure proves the DNR should have to follow our rules for elk movement as they caused this disease themselves in hope of more money from the hunting community.* If so just proves we all should be on the same page with animal movement.* I'm just guessing here as I don't know how else the elk would get there.* Any body know how they got there?

The state brought them in to Arkansas in the late 1980's. *They came from Colorado and Nebraska. *They say it is virtually impossible that it came in with them since they say they have been doing extensive testing on the herd. *Just over 200 tests have been done in just under 20 years of testing.

Does anyone else sense any stupidity here?

What a joke I've tested over 200 head in one year when we had a hunt facility.* How many elk are in this herd?* I'll bet this number tested is less than 2% over 35 years.* With a disease like CWD it take luck or 100% testing to find one with CWD.* Stupidly doesn't even start to describe this lack of testing.

Arkansas is so concerned about CWD, and then there is "Wind Cave". * *

If someone would do a story about how the government treats private individuals and how they handle CWD, it would probably be a best seller, and someone would go on to make a movie about it. *No one outside the industry would believe it.

The thing that I almost find funny is people will jump on this and say how it is spreading when more then likely it has been there for along time. My thought is if you test enough/long enough you will find CWD everywhere and it has been here along time and will be here for long time. Is it possible that CWD is just one thing on a list of things that deer can get....just like how every living thing on this planet has a list of things that they can get.
