Rodney,

I hope its more than just lip service.* You have a president that said to my husband why would anyone want to open a preserve? it cost too much money.* That's what you are dealing with.

When its all said and done I just want to resolve to the fact that we done all we can. We have a new Senator this year that I feel will make all the difference in the world.* No more bills written by the DNR,* The ridiculous regulations and requirements are not going to be entertained this year.* Everyone knows there will be oversight but it doesn't have to be so cumbersome you can not efficiently operate.**

I got on Brandon's blog today. He in a round about way was attempting to defend another writer of similar persuasion who had been fired from his outdoor writing position for speaking out against the freedoms guaranteed by the second amendment. Brandon fits right in the culture of this area of the state. I would bet this guy probably files all the barbs off his fishing hooks so he doesn't hurt the fish.

Indiana is ground zero for the industry to fight these guys. If the battle is lost here then Katy bar the door everywhere else because you will fall much easier to the same sword.

If these idiots are able to convince conservative business minded politicians here that their egalitarian socialist wildlife model is something our private property is included in then there is no way a state with a liberal senate or governor will stop them. I hope the preserves, NADefa, Idefa, the ACA and everyone can understand what happens here will mean whether we all have an industry or not. Its time we all pull together.

Between my hunters and Soldiers program I have over 1,000 people here each year.* Its so frustrating when these idiots act like they speak for sportsmen and outdoors people.* The hunting industry would be far more vulnerable to the anits if not for all the people and money poured into the industry by us.* Not everyone can go to pike county Illinois hunting.* That is a thing of the past. * *

I could about guarantee that Mitch Daniels is the reason Dr Davis is no longer a spokesmen for the ACA.

He is no longer Gov of IN but his tentacles reach far beyond the Govenorship.

Chronic wasting disease is genuine threat

margin-left:60px;(0,0,0);' ', 'Segoe UI', 'Lucida Grande', ;In response to The Star’s series on deer farming, Don Davis, in his June 30 op-ed, dismissed Ryan Sabalow’s reporting as a one-sided attack on the family farm. Davis’ arguments, clearly in support of the captive deer industry, ignore broad policy questions, and attempt to minimize the risk this industry poses to our wildlife resources and, potentially, to human health.
margin-left:60px;(0,0,0);' ', 'Segoe UI', 'Lucida Grande', ;Most business types involve a spectrum of actors: some exemplary, most hardworking and honest, and (unfortunately) a few scoundrels. The recent spate of Lacey Act convictions, including some in Davis’ home state of Texas, for illegally transporting deer across state lines, underscores that point. With a disease like chronic wasting disease, a single reckless incident may move disease and cause irreparable harm to the public’s wildlife resources.
margin-left:60px;(0,0,0);' ', 'Segoe UI', 'Lucida Grande', ;Sabalow concluded that farmed deer, because of inadequate testing and frequent movement between facilities and states, constitute a risk to wild deer. Davis argues against this route of disease transmission and suggests, “If anything, it is more accurate to say the opposite” (implying that wild deer, a public resource, constitute a risk to privately-held deer farmers). Canadian epidemiologists have concluded that movement between game farms is the root cause of CWD spread in Canada (with the original source being a South Dakota game farm), and that the disease subsequently spilled over into wild deer. CWD prevalence in wild deer in parts of Saskatchewan is nearly 50 percent. According to Davis’ theory, the opposite occurs in the U.S.?
margin-left:60px;(0,0,0);' ', 'Segoe UI', 'Lucida Grande', ;Davis attempts to minimize potential disease impacts by stating that “CWD occurs in only about four in 1,000 deer.” True, but a trained epidemiologist should recognize that national averages provide a rather incomplete picture for infectious diseases, which tend to cluster on the landscape.
margin-left:60px;(0,0,0);' ', 'Segoe UI', 'Lucida Grande', ;Davis continues by stating that CWD prevalence is lower in game farms than in wild deer. Again, a misleading argument, because game farms have historically been quickly depopulated (at taxpayer expense and with taxpayer-provided indemnification) after the initial detection of disease (before prevalence can rise).
margin-left:60px;(0,0,0);' ', 'Segoe UI', 'Lucida Grande', ;Davis concludes that CWD “does not appear to be a threat to humans.” John Gummer, former British environment secretary, famously made the same statement about mad cow disease in a “made-for-media” event where he fed a hamburger to his daughter to demonstrate the safety of British beef. We know how that turned out. One thing the study of diseases has shown us is to “never say never.”

Jerilee, you might be surprised at the reason Dr. Davis is no longer associated with ACA. Perhaps you should check with the ACA or even Dr. Davis.

Steve,

Maybe so but Daniels is very vindictive and I don't think anyone should underestimate his animosity towards preserves in Indiana that started in 2006 along side Kyle hupfer. He might be president of Purdue university now but he was gov for 8 years with presidential aspirations

I want to set the record straight for all the naysayers and conspiracy theorist out there. First off i am here to tell you that i am not from any association, alliance or special interest group. I am for the cervid breeders and agriculture families all across the country. I personally sit on the ACA media review committee, which was put together with VOLUNTEERS from 36 state associations that make up the ACA counsel. There are a lot of people spending hours upon hours trying to help the industry with the one goal to have an industry for our families and children at the end of the day. I challenge everyone to quit trying to find holes in the ship and just climb onboard and work together.

Carolyn here is the letter that was sent out to the group and should explain any questions anyone should have about Dr. Davis and the ACA. You can forward this on to anyone wanting to know the truth!

"Fellow leaders,

Yesterday’s West Virgina MetroNews article has been removed at our request. An unfortunate mistake was made last week with one of our responses to inaccurate comments made by the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources. There was a breakdown in communication between our PR firm and myself and a response I made to our PR firm was misinterpreted and the editorial was sent to several media outlets. We were working on a response intended to be signed by Dr Davis, however, he declined to sign this particular release. We then asked Dr. Bugai to sign the editorial instead, which he agreed to do after we incorporated his suggested changes. It wasn’t until I submitted Dr. Bugai’s editorial that I learned the original draft had been submitted to the media with Dr. Davis name attached. Unfortunately one of the pieces was picked up by Chris Lawrence. We have now been successful getting the rest of the papers that had agreed to run the editorial to pull it back and Chris Lawrence has removed it as well.

This should not have happened and safeguards are now in place that will keep this from happening again. We regret this error and we humbly apologize to Dr. Davis. He will no longer be serving as our alliance’s scientific adviser. We have the upmost respect for Dr. Davis and thank him for everything he has done to support this industry.

As you can imagine, there are literally dozens of articles emailed back and forth between the ACA Media Review Committee and the PR firm. This was not a malicious attempt by anyone to discredit Dr. Davis, nevertheless it was a gross error in which I take full responsibility. In the first two months we have been very successful with the positive messaging that has been seen around the country and we want to see this continue as it helps protect all our states. As I stated we will ensure this error never happens again.

Thank you for your support of this industry’s alliance.

Charly Seale"

I don't have time to play these smoke and mirrors games, i would rather spend my extra time working to help the industry.

Anyone that wants to help, can send any negative article found on the web to my email kurthumphrey@hotmail.com

We as an industry need to try to figure where this drive has come to power the Indy star!

If we don't we will keep whiffing strikes.

What a lot of your don't know is the Dean of Purdue vet med sent a letter to Dr Davis scolding him for supporting the cervid industry. Now Daniels is president. Daniels tried to keep Dr raglan from speaking on idefa behalf for our bills the last two years and he told

Daniels to go pound sand. I may not be brilliant but I can add!

I graduated from Purdue but I'll be damned if I send another dime to the vet med school
