I have been doing some research to find the ruling or law that states it is illegal to have a cervid breeding facility in Nebraska, can anyone point me in the proper direction? The only comments I can get from parks and wildlife is that is it illegal due to diseases the animal carries. I have searched high and low and asked where I can find this ruling with no help at all from them at all. Any help is appreciated.

Thank you

Cervid: mule deer, whitetail, elk, goats, bighorn & stone sheep

I also know it is not legal to have cervids in Nebraska as I tried to ship mule deer there.* I would think you could get some information from your Dept of Livestock.* The DNR is a kingdom on to their selves and I wouldn't expect help from them.* I ask the governor when the DNR will not respond to me.* He is usually in charge of them.

A lot of times they tell you their opinion, not the law, assuming you will believe them.

Yeah our DNR is anti everything it seems like, I have emailed the head of DNR and awaiting response. When I asked about the law and where I could find it they quit emailing me.

I have found that out a lot with them, this is why I was asking on here because I can't find*the law anywhere.

Tell your Dept. of Ag. you are bringing in some farmed deer from another state and you need a farm permit from them. *I'll bet you get some return phone calls.

Also let your local DNR officers know this. *This will go up the chain of command really fast.

Howdy,

that is not actually accurate. Nebraska is full of elk breeders and some other exotic cervids.* However, whitetail, mule deer and red deer can't be raised there. Eric Mohlman is the president of the Nebraska Elk breeders Association and can answer other questions you have. His email is mohlmanelk@gtmc.net.

Hope this helps,

Funny how they will let you raise something exotic but not a native species. Seems like it should be the other way around.
