Hi everyone,

Im pretty sure that there has been post after post on this subject but I would like to hear some feedback anyways. Im new to the industry, just got licensed as a matter of fact. Im a college girl so i'm startin out small. Im basically just looking for a few head as a hobby. Ive always admired a big, clean typical deer and thats what Im lookin for. Anyone out there have typical that has it all? Tine length, mass, and width? Im in southern oklahoma so im not sure that a big heavy nothern deer would do well down here. Any advice or tips is greatly appreciated.

Thanks to all, Davina Bagby

Davina,

We live in southern Oklahoma, too. Duncan. We have big typicals. Here's a pic of 2 of them. Rambo was the largest net typical, B&C scoring, ever raised last year. He scored 219+. Tyson is 7X7, 7/8 brother to Rambo. Come see 'em and/or give us a call.

Big Guy would be a good choice. I have sold deer to other farmers in Oklahoma and they have done well.

That is him, thanks Steve. I can never figure out how to post pics on here.

I bought him last year from the Flees family. A great looking typical (in my opinion) and a great typical producer as well.

Davina, this is a 2 year old named Slate. Chuck Fly has offspring out of him, he lives in Okee. If you need his number let me know. I also have a daughter out of Slate here in Missouri. Jeff 573-517-1865

DavinaSue,

First of all you are doing the best thing possible. You have in mind what you want to accomplish and go after in the means of whitetail deer. Secondly, asking around for info and visiting a variety of farms and deer farmers is always a best thing to do. There are many deer farms across the nation and right in your home state. You can check with your state association, Whitetails of Oklahoma, if you are interested in getting info on more farms in the state or your national association NADeFA for others around the U.S. Whitetails of Oklahoma is having a membership meeting on September 11th in Tulsa at 1 p.m. also if you want to try and meet some other deer farmers and pick their brains. Whatever you do, just don't get in a hurry. Learn about the deer breeding, the industry, genetics and what you find that produces what you are looking for. Congratulations on getting started! I wish you the best adventures in growing the big typicals! Feel free to call me if I can help provide you any info you may be looking for.

DavinaSue, Larry hit it on the head, I was going to offer the contact info for NADeFA - our national Association, their new membership directory has it all, here is their info; www.nadefa.org, #651-345-5600, they will also be able to tell you who to contact for OK. meeting on Sept 11th.

Another strong typical breeder is Brad Heath in WI. - www.orionwhitetails.com

Good Luck
