Hey everyone i have been kicking around starting a small deer farm here but wood like to see other ficilities in my area but haven't found anyone but a few elk farms and they seem to be very few also. I haven't came up with much of a plan at all but after a little research I came up with the yearly cost per deer is about $500 a year per deer to feed. I have access to hay and maybe we could plant alphelfa. I live on a small grains farm for my father in law so we have soybeans, corn, wheat, barley, and sometimes canola so I can get some feed there.

How much per acer does fence usually cost? We have some livestock gates I could use.

What about watering devices? What about winter months?

I was thinking about starting with a few quality does and getting some hig quality buck seman to inseminate them with but I will have to find a qualified person to do that since I have no clue how to do it yet. Anyone hear of 7c's whitetails in Texas? Looks like they make some huge bucks there.

I have a small area on the farm I love on and it's not my farm so I don't want to put up fence get established and then find my own place with more property and have to move and re-establish so I need to sell my house in another town that I haven't lived in for 2-1/2 years so I have money to pay for things. Right now I'm just getting ideas flowing since I can't afford to pay attention right now cuz I'm paying for another house I don't live in.

I see lots of threads around here of people wanting to start deer farming and I've been reading through them but would like to find some farms around here in North Dakota

Thanks for reading my post

We are located in the southeast corner of ND and we run both a breeding and a hunting operation. You are more than welcome to give us a call any time to talk about deer breeding. You can reach me, Butch Dick at 701-308-0157 and we can set up a tour of the place if you are interested.

I tried your website the other night but it didn't work maybe it was an old website. I found it on line with a few others but they didn't work either. I have a house down in fgo also and think I might head that way in a week or two maybe I could swing down to Lisbon and check ur place out. I think I've been by your place coyote hunting but was unaware of your business.

You should figure around $3.25 per lineal foot for 6" vertical spacing wire and $4.50 per lineal foot for 3" vertical spacing wire. These prices are approximate for material only (8' wire, CCA post, and miscellaneous hardware) not including gates and are based on using hi tensile fixed knot deer fence. It takes 990' of fence to fence a rectangular pen 330' by 165' (1 1/4 acres). Keep in mind that you need gates with 4" mesh on them not cattle panels. A fawn can go through a 6" square. Feel free to contact me if I can be of further assistance.

How many deer would fit comfortably on 8-10 acres? How many pens would this fit? Should I start with fawns or bred does. Like I said before I'm just starting And plan on starting small to make sure I can juggle both jobs at once for now and we will see if I plan on doing this full time.
