Future deer farm carrer

Hello all, I am a college student from Louisiana. I am in the major of agriculture and have found interest in starting a deer farm when i graduate. I know it is very expensive to start up. I have 40 acres that has been passed on to me. So say I farm 30 of those acres with whitetail deer that score 200+... after all feed expenses, vet, etc. How much money can i expect to make around? This is after i have an established farm and all. Thanks for the answers. I really need to know if this is a career i can pursue!

I would contact and go see as many deer farmers in Louisiana as possible.

Is there a thread that shows salaries or does anyone have a idea of a salary chart they can point me too?

im not absolutely positive but I would say ALMOST everyone who raises deer ALSO works at a full time job! That to me says DEER FARMING isnt as great as it should be or what people think! Just saying!

Nothing is a guarantee and in the deer biz EVERY DEER FARMER is ONE CWD test away from being out of business!

Never spent more money on deer than you can AFFORD to LOSE!

Have you ever tried to conduct a market research? It is always important that you ask before investing in a business since it is not that cheap and not all succeed. Not because you have a farm doesn't mean that you are good to go. You need to install wood pet gates to ensure that they won't escape. It will take some time to get the expenses that you used for this business to work.

Yea, I am not going into this as a money making venture but more of a hobby and for ecological reasons (which might be wrong, lol). But I am fortunate to have a military pension...I would never think of doing this without some other form of income.

I was interested in this post to see if there was income potential but at no time have I ever thought of making a living of a deer or any small farm that could sustain me and my wife....but I know it is possible. It has more to do with your wants and needs...get rid of your wants and you just have to address your needs, then life becomes much cheaper. Sometimes that takes years to figure out and having a wife can (not always) make it even harder.
