Should of got a check right then and there before you left. I would of required a down payment before I drove there and the rest should of been paid on delivery

We delivered him early in the morning after a perfect hind quarter dart at 20 yards. We videoed him leaving the trailer, his ears were up, he trotted off, no apparent issues. We were not paid, they said they would send a check. Two days later, we got a call
They said they found him dead
They said they wouldn't be paying us.
No written contract. Does a verbal agreement stand up? When does the buck become "theirs"? Any advice?
Did they send pic's? I would demand the animal back at the very least. You cant trust anyone in this business and always get at least half up front before delivery. When the deer comes of the trailer it belongs to them for the most part. We do back our animals up because we sell to the same place every year for the most part. If it did die from darting/delivery stress then it could fall back on you but i would want to see the dead buck to find out the death issue and the rack to do whatever you see fit with.

get the horns back or charge them for them, they are yours and if they say otherwise, get a lawyer to write you a letter and get it done asap
