I've been reading/lurking this forum for a little over a year. I've finally taken the plunge and decided to get a deer. I would like a doe fawn to raise as a family pet, then maybe expanding. I don't know, we'll see how it goes.

So far, I have drill stem to use as post's. I cannot find any regulations in OK for fence, but I've been thinking about using hog panels welded to the drill stem for the bottom row, then larger panels for the top row. If that won't be acceptable, I have a line on 8' tall stainless chain link. I really need to get it completed so I can get my state permit before birthing begins. I just need to know which way to go.

Strangely enough, I'm really looking forward to bottle feeding and watching the little girl grow. I have 10 and 13 year old girls that have been wanting a deer for about as long as I have. I have plans to visit a couple deer farms to see the operations and hopefully learn as much as I can.

An engineer friend is trying to design a doggie/deer door that is approx. 2' X 4' thru my wall and into the pen so it can come and go as it pleases. Do you think that will be large enough? The pen will be on the North side of the house and as you know, the larger the door, the more tension it will need to keep the wind from blowing it open.

If anyone has any pointers, I am more than willing to learn everything I can.

Thank You,

not sure about OK but in Illinois we have to use high tensil fence on exterior fence. I have used cattle panel on an interior gate and have had fawns slip right through it.
