The place I have my deer pen, sometimes has horses grazing around it. Just the 7ft 9 inch fence seperating them. Do I need to worry about this?

I guess if they are used to seeing them it wouldn't be a big problem. However, my deer happen to HATE horses. My neighbor has a few and sometimes uses the upper pasture for them, and the deer become skittish to say the least.

Not sure what others experiences are.

We have clydesdales and the deer dont mind them as long as the horses dont get out of there pasture. Then the deer get spooked just because they are not where they are suposed to be. Anything out of the ordinary and the deer spook!!!

My horses and deer share more than one common fence, and it has never been a problem for us. Even bringing new deer in, they don't seem to be phased by the horses at all.

My deer seem to hate horses not so much the horse itself but get one running or moveing quickly along the fence and the deer go crazy.

PUT AN ELECTRIC FENCE AROUND IT!!!!!

I had a couple horses, and they started using the fence like a scratching post. They put all their weight on the fence and then the fence gets loose and junky.

I ended up getting rid of the horses. Trust me, they are a pain!

Unfortuneately they are not my horses. It is a 60 acre field and they are only there on rare occasions. Their water tank is on the back side of my pen though.

I'm late to the party here, but I had to chime in. I had Fallow and Appaloosa x draft crosses, so don't know if the type of deer makes a difference. I know Fallow seem more laid back than white tails. Anyway, the pasture and the deer pen shared a fence and the critters seemed to get along quite well. The mares would stand dozing under the trees on one side of the fence and the deer would nest down and chew their cuds under the trees on the other side of the fence. They would all take turns having a member of one herd or the other on guard duty while everyone else dozed.

I think my one mare had a big crush on the buck, too. Even hugely pregnant she would make all sorts of come hither signs to him. He, of course, was terribly confused. I think the mare was confused by the spots; everybody had spots. Maybe the mare thought he was an uncommonly handsome little fellow, (she was 4 times his size) and he just wondered why this giant female kept winking at him.

The nice thing about this arrangement was that when we were out trail riding, MY horses didn't spook at strange deer. Everyone else would be having a rodeo and mine would be going, "Well, hel-LOW Big Boy!"

Now if I just had a pig pen next to my horse pasture. Cuz my horses still have conniptions when hogs run by,....
