New to farming

We are getting our first 2 doe this spring. We already have just over an acre of land fenced in and ready to go.. what are some must haves that we'll need to successfully take care of our deer and potentially grow into a breeding/selling Farm in years to come.

Thanks for any advice!

I was looking into some sort of deer chute whenever I stumbled across this forum, thanks guys!

I would suggest see as many farms as possible and talk to those people and ask them what they did wrong, or what they would do differently. Every person here has done something they thought was good at the time and then learned from it. Easier to learn from our mistakes than make them yourself.

More pens the better. (easier for sorting)
You can never have enough gates between pens
Get a dart gun and a vet to set you up with some BAM tranqualilzer
Have fencing supplies on hand in case of trees or limbs falling on fence

I live is western PA 15 min from ohio so if you need something or want to talk feel free to contact me. 724-777-0727

Good Luck!

Ok thanks alot. I'm in North eastern Ohio, east of canton. We only have the one pen, just over an acre fenced in with an attached building. But didn't know what exactly we needed to help out, like building our own chute so we didn't have to tranquilize the deer to give them shots and everything. Or maybe great methods of feeding them outside of just a trough... or if you guys think that's a great idea for simplicity.

I'm in this with my dad, we've only visited one smaller Farm so I'm trying to gather as many tips/ideas to make everything go as smooth as possible.

We're only doing it to enjoy the deer, but I've heard thats where the addiction starts haha so I'm trying to make the right moves for now and possible growth in the future if it were to go that way.

You need to stop spending money and learn what to do and how to do it first. You are just making mistakes right now. And it's going to keep costing you money until you learn some stuff first.
