Pneumonia in fawns

Pneumonia has hurt bad this year on fawns just when I thought it was over Friday my youngest buck fawn has a snotty nose and was not as energetic as usual I gave him 1/2cc of draxin and yesterday no improvement I gave him 1/2cc of excede today he died. I have a doe fawn we had to bottle Feed and yesterday her appetite dropped drastically this morning all she would rat was a little bread this afternoon when I got home from work I gave her excede 1/2cc I'm pretty sure it's pneumonia I only have 5 of 17 fawns left and don't want to loose another any recommendations

I had the same problem with pneumonia in fawns and switched to Zuprevo. It's kinda spendy like draxin but for whatever reason if you can get em early enough, it really works excellent, couple treatments usually straightens them out. I use it now for most any issue that requires antibiotics. I use to think draxin was the best but it doesn't seem to help with pneumonia. Good luck.

prevention?

First of all I'm terribly sorry about the disasters you've had!!! My gut feeling would be to give the remaining fawns you have antibiotics, kind of as prevention or just to be sure they have something immediately in case they come down with it too. Maybe it's hard to detect and once we do detect symptoms it might be already to late for treatment. So I'd be hitting them with meds, something slow release, and probiotics regardless.... Maybe also B12 Complex, just to make sure they get all sorts of nutrition and maintain appetite. Praying that things will turn better for you. Keep us updated if possible.

I actually did give the remainder a shot of draxin it's a 10-14 day antibiotic I don't have a barn or chute system yet so I have to dart most of my meds I do use areomiacin crumbles on their food at times but I'm not sure I'm getting the dosage right. I used to get the 4g at tractor supply but this year we has to get a prescription and I've only been able to get 2g crumbles

Last year we lost almost half of our fawns to pneumonia. After releasing about 30 does into our enclosure we split the remaining does into the empty pens. We don't have any more than 8 does in each pen now. We have less fawns this year but so far we are having better luck. Last year Nuflor helped some but nothing was a sure shot fixer upper. As for the snotty nosed fawns this year, we put LS-50 (water soluble antibiotic powder for chickens) in the water troughs. Also 4G medicated crumbles in all the feed troughs. That has seemed to clear up the eye boogers and snotty noses. That is my "remedy". However, I am open to any suggestions!!
Good luck,
Jake
