slaughter age

at what age do you send your deer to an abattoir/slaughter house. I have read online that the average age is 16 months, but I'm wondering is anyone selling them off any sooner?

planning on raising red deer. the venison industry in Ireland and the uk has been steadily growing, but the uk cant meet its own demand, importing over 90% of its venison from new Zealand, clearly this is a lucerative market if your in the right place

does anyone know?
