Utility poles

Does anyone use utility/telephone poles as fence posts? Just looking for some input on using them on my pens

Yes sir my first pen was utility poles. Strongest pen I ever built. When I started I didn't have the money to buy materials for a pen. Was goose hunting one day on a farm and snuck up to what I thought was a dirt mound. And there they were . Thirty foot utility poles. Did some work for the land owner and the poles were mine. . The only thing was. There frigging heavy. Lol. But work well and are solid.

That's all I use. Drilled holes set with skidloader and tamped stone dust around. Won't go anywhere.

Stop at the utility company in your area. They saved all accident poles or ones that were due for replacement and kept them at 14 ft or longer and I would go pick up once they had a stock pile. All free they usually cut them into tiny pieces and pay for disposal
Good luck

I used telephone poles for all my pens. One even has all telephone poles for the line posts. Just make sure to use a good creosoted butt ends for your corners and dividers. All the ones that didn't have a good butt end I painted good with a bucket of roof tar, They have been in for 16 years and all are still good shape. Built a pen for something else a long time ago and used good creosoted butt ends. That was over 30 years ago all corners are still good a few of the line posted finally rotted off but I don't think I used the roof tar on those at that time.

I have some small pens at my place and used utility poles for the corner and brace posts and 4-6" diameter treated pine posts for line poles. I am going to be tearing everything out later this winter and will be looking to sell most of the poles and at least one roll of good woven wire fence. Poles are 12'

I did my first pen in utility poles. I did spacing at 15 foot just like the others Ive done. Pen came out all right. However since ive put in 4 other pens using utility poles that were taken to a saw mill and cut into 5x5x14 and 6x6x14, those turned out nice. But using the 4-5 and the 6-7 tapered poles looks the best in my opinion. But those cost money!

I did 20ft. Never had a problem. I used a stretcher for skid loader. Last been I did, I did rounded corners instead of 45 and fence is still tight and deer seem to like it.
