We have a three week old fawn that the ear tag got caught in something and tore it's ear really bad. Had bad infection by the time we found it. Got it in and gave antibiotics. Feeding goats milk, 6 0z four times a day. Did give electrolytes in milk twice. Stool went to water. Still that way. Have dirt in pen for it. This morning she seems shaky, limping on one leg. Need ideas.:

supravo, not sure about spelling three tenths of a cc on june 24th, again on june 29th. she was loose after the first shot but was getting firm until the second shot. then went to very loose. gave her electrolites. since it has turned to green water. onlt gave it in two bottles. otherwise she is on fresh goats milk. would clostrum help. we can get that.

Don't change the milk, the minute you change the worse the diarrhea will get. When we notice green watery stool we put 1 spoon of pumpkin in the bottle. Repeat until it starts to look formed. Others give an egg white in a little bit of warm water in the bottle twice a day. Is she's shaky you could give bounce back or another electrolyte replacer between feeds.

How is it doing now? Usually if you give antibiotics PO they can get the runs, but IM and subQ are absorbed through blood stream and don't affect the GI tract.

I just read your thread. How is the fawn doing today?

I understand the urgency of things from the beginning and the stress to make it better. BUT, doing too much at any time can be bad. Slow down and make slow changes. You can be making things worse or better and never know what you did to cause it.

How is the fawn eating today? How is it pooping today?

She is still eating but sometimes won't take a full 4 oz. Backed off probio for today. Giving goat yogurt but only a teaspoon. Still has not pooped for last 24 hours. Had to give her a tenth of a cc of zupravo due to infection in ear. How much probio should be given?

Great news, she pooped. That's why I was saying to slow down and relax. If they have had the runs and then they stop, that is good news. I does take several feeding before they will poop again.

Now that you have things under control, don't change anything. Hold off on the probiotics and slow down on the yogurt. Don't get too bent out of shape if she doesn't eat all her bottle every feeding. If her activity and attitude are good, she is doing fine.
