Birds in feeders

How do you keep birds out of the feeders? I have an owl and a hawk decoy and the birds still come into the feeders.

I've heard to just feed pellets. the birds only bother my feed when there is snow cover.

I usually load my feeders with pellets, corn and roasted soy beans. Just use straight pellets?
