one of my fawns was coughing this morning right after the morning bottle. Not much, but it's the first time.

No indication of a temp.

the fawns are 90 days old and doing fine -

I suppose that I'm an old fuss-bucket and worrier. When I see something like her coughing I wonder is this something I should worry about.

After a few coughs she began to eat grass and poop - poop looked and smelled normal.

So should I worry or just not worry so much?

If I hear one coughing for 2 days in a row and it seems to be getting a little hoarser....I've given a shot of Tetradure or Nuflor (use dosage on bottle) and it seems to wipe out immediately.

May be the mother in me since my son has always had problems, but I don't let a cough go on too long.

The last two fawns, I've used Tetradure which has worked great. By that night, the cough is gone.

The fawn probably just drank the milk to fast and aspirated some of it. If I use a nipple that has to big of a hole on a young fawn this usually happens to me.

Lord, they do drink fast - almost as if they think if they don't it's gonna disappear.

Will keep watching and if it presists go the Tetradure/Nuflor route.

I realize that I'm being cautious - but having heard how fast things move in fawns I just don't want to take a chance.

They are just to "pretty" not to care.

Thank you all

Good job John, Keep an eye on him between bottles, like when he is active, playing etc. Some times they just get to excited and suck to fast. Good luck, Allen

Texas John - that was too sweet when you said "they are just to pretty not to care". I just love knowing there are others who love and care for these precious God created beautiful creatures! I hope your fawn is ok - sounds like she is in good hands. Also - don't EVER think you worry to easily when it comes to these beauties - I am the exact same way. It's when you don't worry and let it ride that you end up with problems. As soon as my girls start acting or looking "not normal" I of course - worry - but act quickly. Of course this forum is full of WONDERFUL people with GREAT advice. Just wanted to end on a positive note

Hey Scott - thanks again for talking with me Well, those crazy little sores are clearing up. I gave Nina a shot of LA200 and kept an eye on her. She broke out with a couple more sores - total of about 7/8 - weird. But, the scabs are falling off and healing nicely. Bless her heart - she looks terrible - LOL. Not in a bad way - but she is shedding big time!!!! Half of her summer fur is gone and what's left are patches here and there. Then when you look at her head/ears she has all those sores. I think she is a tom-boy - she doesn't give a hoot about what she looks like - she is always in good spirits - love her heart LOL - Hey thanks for asking! I hope all is well down south!

Ok it seems my 09 fawns have the exact same thing, it started with one fawn and now has spread to them all, I talked to vet today and it is either ringworm or a Dermatosis/bacterial problem that he says will usually go away on its own but may take a couple months???

I have 12 fawns in one pen, 6 bottle feds and 6 mother raised, how do you suggest treating, I dont like idea of tranqing 6 fawns if i dont have to. Is there someting that can be added to food or water that will help with this fungus or bacteria. Thank you for your response

Rick

We had fawns with dime-sized scabs, scabs that fell off and left an open red sore. We gave our bottle feds SMZ-TMP 960mg tablets. We gave 1/2 tablet twice a day, dissloved in their bottle for 5 days and the sores went away and have not returned. hope this can help you.

God Bless
