Have a four week old buck fawn who I noticed two days ago was not quite as spunky as he should be. Wasn't able to catch until today as he got slower and I could sneak up on him. He stumbled as he tried to get away and was unsteady. Upon examination I found an infected navel. Infection was about the size of a nickel and did not appear real deep. Cleaned with peroxide, treated with red coat antiseptic spray. Gave him one cc nuflor, 1.5 cc vitamin b, and 1/2 cc ivomec in case any parasites had gotten to him although none were evident. He was somewhat thinner than others. Went back later and got him to drink about four oz milk and pulled him to keep cool in this heat and also to keep flys away.

Any other suggestions???

A little squirt of Gentle Iodine on the navel won't hurt. My choice drug for this would be Long Lasting Penicillin......................Just My Opinion!

Best of Luck!

Was this treatment successful ? Did you repeat anything ? I have zero experience with fawns but this one was injured on the highway. She’s been doing great until her navel started to get yellow puss and the area is getting larger. I see no sign of worm larvae she’s eating normal but I want to treat as aggressively as possible without harming her more as I am clueless how to help. I have nuflor b12 la200 betadyn on hand to use this morning . I have been putting betadyn on it for 24 hours but it seems to be getting larger . Thanks for any advice
