I have a 7 week old buck fawn on momma. For two days I have noticed he is humped up with tail up as if he is trying to poop. Momma is frequently licking And stimulating him so I can't see if he is going or not. Maybe constipated or maybe has runs or neither cant tell. Seems pretty normal otherwise other than tonight I got closer to him than I normally can so he may be just a little slower than usual. Don't know where to start???

If you think there is something wrong...there usually is something wrong...you know your deer better than anyone else!! I wouldn't wait too long......being proactive in this game usually wins!

Had a fawn with the same symptons two years ago. Caught him and gave him 5cc Penicillen. Seem to take care of it. Then it came back as a yearling. Gave him 12 cc penicillen and he is doing great @ 2 this year. It was explained to me as an infection they get that gives them the sensation that they have to poop even when they are empty. Can't say for sure this what your little guy has but it sure sounds similar. hope it helps. I would for sure get a stool sample to your vet also! Check for coccidiosis as crocket suggested. keep us posted.

I wouldn't count out E.coli . Most definitely get a sample sent to your vet ASAP. Something isn't normal! ALWAYS ask questions about anything abnormal....if you don't in my opinion ..... you wont have a deer herd long! Good luck!
