My vet has suggested we use the following vaccines...

*

Annually:

Vista 5 L5

One Shot Ultra

DectoMax

*

At weaning:

Vista 5 L5

One Shot Ultra

*

I'm not familiar with their use on deer.* From what I found online they sound reasonable, but I'm not sure about dosage with deer.* Additionally has anyone heard of or used these first hand?

Vista is for protection from viruses and the L5 if protection from Lepto.* While this is not bad I don't think it is my first choice

One Shot is for protection of the pasturella pneumonias.* My experience in using this product is that it is oil based and will burn the deer when given.* In fact they will limp on what ever side you give it on for a day or two.* Vista Once PMH is a similar product but is water based and not quite so harsh on the deer should you choice to use a pasturella vaccine.

*

It is my opinion that you are leaving out the most critical vaccines:

1)*clostridium vaccine - such as Covexin 8 or any other commercial 7 way clostridial vaccine (Bar Vac 7, Ultrabac 7, ect)

2) Clostridium Type A - Type A is not included in 7 way or 8 way vaccines.* I use Novartis Clostridium Type A vaccine, the only type A commercial vaccine I know of.

3) Fusoguard - You can eliminate a lot of fuso problems and even some pneumonia problems with this product.

4) some type of dewormer, (Ivomec Plus, Dectomax, Cydectin, Synanthic, ect)

*

These are the 4 things I have used for several years with very little problems.* Check with your vet to see what bacteria, viruses, parasites, are common in you area and decide what to use.* If viruses are a big problem then you may want to include a virus protection like VIsta 5 L5.

Hope this helps.

skent,

You're pretty much the same as a few other farmers I have asked about their vaccination plans.* These were brought up by our vet when we went to get a prescription from him and I had never heard of any of them, so I asked the question here.* He does a lot of research and tries to be helpful, but we are the only deer farm he has ever worked with so he's learning with us.* Dr.Ables thinks positively of Dectomax, but Vista 5 says it is not for use in pregnant animals so it's out, and one shot ultra is a 7 way but I'm not sure if it's any better or any worse than others.*

I appreciate your response, Travis
