Not sure if this is the right tread to ask this question but I am curious if bucks lose their velvet off their antlers in their first year?*

I have a rescue buck that I released three years ago and last year was the first year he had antlers and was a spike. *This year he is an 8 point. *So in his first year he only had nubs and never grew antlers. *Have you ever experience that with any of your bucks?*
