Hi Guys:

I was just reading the thread posted regarding a serious antler infection that appeared to spread into the deer's system. Alot of what happens in this business requires almost immediate action for the best results and a vet isn't always available and can be expensive. Any suggestions on what types of medicines (and their applications) should be kept on hand that can be useful to combat some of the more frequent problems that arise when raising deer. I would like to be prepared in the event something should happen and I need to act quickly.

Well just had a serious problem today. Had an elk that got about 70 pounds of wire on his antlers. Talk about an animal that wanted to kill anything in his way. First thing I needed was my dart gun and right size darts and the right sedation products. We use a 6 to 1 mix of Xylazine to Telazol. Reversed the effects of the Xylazine after 40 minutes. All went well and the elk has no antlers thus no problem. So the first thing you need is a method to control the deer or elk. I always have on hand casting material, sutures and Draxxin, LA200, Pen, Banimine, Nuflor, iodine to clean wounds.
