Recently received a call from a man inquiring about any hunt opportunity at our hunt preserve in MN. Left message stating his name was Robert and he needed a hunt for 3 persons to hunt a trophy and a management deer each 6 total but couldn't spend more than $20,000. He stated he was familiar with hunt preserves as he had worked at Three Lakes Preserve in Wisconsin. He needed the hunt to happen NOW as he was in between jobs in construction in Michigan and moving to Arkansas.

We happened to have a hunt group that moved their hunt from Sept 26-28 to a later date so we booked his hunt on a couple days notice for that slot. Several exchanges of texts confirmed dates and times etc

. Revealed that his intent was to write a "business check" to cover the costs. There was no time to deal with a down payment or normal procedures so we asked that he provide guaranteed funds or pay by credit card upon arrival. That was the last we heard from him and of course his group was a no-show.

We did a little research and found that he has a history of game violations in several states and has harvested deer in the past at other facilities and bounced checks or flat out failed to pay on the promise that he had shot more than he planned and was short funds. He would send a check when he gets home.

He has used the name Edward Duncan , William Duncan , and Robert ? Since 2009 . Lots of other "here say" in our discussions with other preserves that I will leave off this post. The phone he is using has no mailbox set up . The number is 870-340-8745.

He didn't cost us anything as he ran from the guaranteed funds requirement 2 days before his hunt. We did lose a week end that we could have booked another Hunter.

BEWARE hunt preserves. He is still out there and needs to be stopped

Here's one related, not sure of the outcome yet.....looking for 22 hunts, paying in full, cashiers check.....AFTER "the owner" of the company visits, and shoots a couple does with the grandkids or kids. Somebody from Oklahoma.

That sounds fishy to me!!* We had a guy one time too that claimed he had all kinds of hunts waiting for a place to go and he was the guy who organized them for a club.* Their club was informal and didn't have a name.* He wanted us to send him some big antlers so he could show the guys.* We said why don't you just come up and see it for yourself.* Well he had every excuse in the book.* Then we said we will come to a club meeting and bring stuff - well that wouldn't work either for a multitude of reasons.* In the end he was a phony!!!

There are a lot of crooks out there that will do anything to cheat us out of a deer hunt. This year it seems to have blossomed. We are a small family run hunt ranch that starts out trusting everybody , cause that's how we were brought up. Now it seems we can't trust anyone. Although on a more humorous side ......we had a young woman from the south bring her 8 year old son up for a deer hunt this September...she shot a great 180s buck on day 2 ....she was the most scantly clad Hunter we have ever hosted and I thought it was part of her desire to have the hunt filmed for her personal resume' as she said she was working with an outdoor network developing a pilot program. Late that evening she came over to the lodge to get "squared up on the bill". She said she was having some trouble with her credit card but as she Un strapped her coverall and started taking off her shirt she insisted she had another way to pay for at least part of her hunt. Just for the record her credit card satisfied the entire amount due!!

My wife actually got a chuckle out of the whole deal. I didn't tell her about it til after they were down the road. My wife did ask me though if the outcome would have been different if it would have been closer to the rut. After over 40 years of marriage she still believes that if I live ,eat , and sleep whitetail and mule deer that "RUT " only comes once a year. Oh well!

Todd

The same guy called me yesterday afternoon looking for hunts for children. I told him I was a farm and not a preserve. He still wanted to come and kill bucks at my place. Told him I could not sell to anyone but preserves or breeders. In talking to him it didn't really sound like he was a hunter but somebody that was trying to catch you doing something wrong.

EXACTLY my thought, almost wondering if it was some one from a PETA group, he wanted to pay me, up front, $80,000.

*

After about 10 different phone calls, and I said I only wanted the deposit, up front, he quit calling.

I got a calll today, "Frank" was his name. He said he was sending 22 employees, and 1 customer.

The owner would drive down and tour farm and give deposit. but if the owner and son and grandkids are there in illinois hunting now, it worries me, because at 3:00 today the "owner" was setting in an office in tulsa trying to book hunts with me.
