So if its done why are you still in it. Your not doing to loose money? If no one is making money your not spending tens of thousands of dollars every year just to loose money. Doesn't make since. I also said $4500 AVERAGE. That's what I was told before I started but that's just my luck. If it wasn't for bad luck I wouldn't have any luck at all.

Why am I still in it if I am losing money?
A very fair question AND a damn good one.
Well I have always been a honest person. So here is more honesty.
In 2011 my world completely unraveled. From out of no where my wife wanted a divorce. As part of that process I sold as much as I could. Thinking it would stop the divorce. Wrong. It was another man not deer that was the problem.
Then as the divorce ended I had this empty spot in me. I also noticed many of my deer friends were no longer in contact with me. So I invested back into deer. Apparently thinking this would help. Turns out many only wanted to be friends because of the quality of big name stock I owned pre divorce.
Having learned I had less REAL friends than I thought I had I wanted to sell out completely. However by that time the market had crashed and selling was tough at best.
Plus to be honest some more, deer gets into your blood. I have done it for well over 20 years. It was a big part of who I was. Giving that up is hard.
I then met a super woman who loves the deer. I then hated to quit and she would miss out on the good times. (There are some good times)
What I did do is cut my numbers way back. Starting this past summer I sold all my buck fawns except two that I decided not to sell because of injury or illness. (I won't sell unhealthy stock) If over the next two years I develop a program with someone for a long term agreement to supply them fine. I will stay in at small numbers. If no agreement is reached then yes, I will be out of deer at that point.
For me personally I don't need the money. I can afford to spend a few thousand each year for a hobby. But for those who want to MAKE money, they need to get out or not get started in deer.
So there is my story and the answer to a great question.

I want to keep small numbers which I have 18-20 doe I'm going to run. The way I figured my numbers is this. If I tie up $1200-1500 in feed and shots in 3yrs and sell at 3 for $3500-$4000 average that's $2300-2500 in my pocket per deer. So how are you not making money??? Looks like I will be?? Is your feed really high priced? Do you have the vet come there for everything? I'm not trying to be a dick or anything I just don't see how you are loosing unless you are selling non-typical deer then I could see it I guess. They are a dime a dozen.

Well I tried posting a screen shot pic of a text message from a hunt Ranch owner. It wouldn't let me post it. A beautiful mostly typical buck scored at just over 250" that he purchased for $2600. Those were the prices most people got this past fall. And I predict it gets worse yet. In fact I know it will. Last I heard due to yet another Ranch with a positive cwd test they stopped buying. And people were telling hunt ranches to just come get their bucks and give whatever they want for them.

That's the prob. You get some of these city boy that don't know shit about hunting. Then they think they can have a hunting ranch and then when they don't get ppl to come shoot there deer they lower the price so much and now James down the street has to do the same because bob is selling 250" bucks for $2500 because he has no clue how a ranch even works but he has to sell them. You guys that are doing this are driving the market into the ground by doing this. You can't keep giving these deer away. All your doing is shooting yourself in the foot. Raise nice clean typicals which most ppl are not doing because it takes longer to get a return and much easer to put inches on non-typical. They market need mor typicals I think in my opinion but what do I know I've been doing this for 3yrs. I know I'm making money on what I'm selling or I won't sell it till someone pays what I'm asking. I'm just going to sit back with what I have and watch till the ppl driving the market down go belly up I guess. That will bring the price back up. Sad to say that and I don't wish it on anyone but that's what is going to happen.
