Elk calves birthed in Montana

We had two calves yesterday one out of a Boa son and one out of Silvertine.
We did a little inbreeding on the Silvertine. We had a Silvertine daughter and AI'd her back to her sire Silvertine. The calf was a female and we will use a nice outcross when she is old enough.
First picture is Silvertine and second picture is Durango 2 who is a 7x7 525 typical who we will breed her to when old enough.
This should be a good cross.

Thanks Roger. That is a 540 SCI bull to a 540 SCI bull with many other 500 plus inch bulls in her background. I expect her to be a fine breeder for me.
 
Thanks Curt but we only have semen from those bulls. I sure wish I had them on my ranch but we are getting offspring from them so we are happy with that.
 
Thanks Ryan. We have had elk for almost forty years and still like them. Not great money in them but they support themselves. Calving time is my favorite time. We did get another calf from our Boa son today out of Six Pack cow. Six Pack is pictured. Supper mass on this bull plus very typical.

I got some calves out of this guy today. He is a nice 7x7 but is a young bull. I think he is out of Bridgewater stock.
So the calves are crosses of Primetime, Impressive, Happy and Silvertine.
Should be good breeders. I've been breeding for clean 7 x 7 stock and hope to keep them at 500 SCI or higher.
Here is a picture of Happy a nice 7x8 bull with 60 inch main beams

We got a bull calf out of Happy and a Reed son called R Best Reeder.
Picture 1 is Happy and picture two is R Best Reeder bull is too the right the 7x7
Gosh I love the birthing season like we all do. For me it's the best time of year.

I see a white cow is birthing right now and whatever she gets will be out of Happy. I'm hoping for a bull calf as Happy has made some fantastic bulls in the past. On white bulls we are lucky to get to 400 SCI just like most of the white deer. My feelings on this is the antlers just get sunburned and don't grow as well because they are always healing themselves from the sun.

The white cow had a heifer from Happy. She was also out of the R Best Reeder bull in the pond. R Best Reeder was a son of Reed.
I've always liked that picture. These were bulls Len Wallace owned and the picture was taken by my friend Bruce Buhmann on one of our trips to see Len's bulls.
 
Here is a picture of our white Silvertine bull. He is a 7x7. He poked his right eye on a Russian olive tree so has a hard time seeing out of it as he has a caterac on it. We call him One Eyed Jack. He is a calm bull and for a white one that is something because most are nuts
