Just wondering what other people are seeing while hunting deer in Missouri. Our friends at the MDC report the deer kill down 22% for the first weekend. I can't find any harvest numbers beyond that first weekend. I did read a report on the MDC website where Jason Summers was qouted as saying the numbers were down the first 2 days due to bad weather. He is also qouted as saying they expect no decline in the harvest as there is a lot of hunting time left and that no decline is expected in this years harvest due to EHD.
Here is what the best deer hunters that I know are telling me:
1. Hardly any mature buck sightings. Most does are being chased and bred by yearling bucks. Several mature bucks found that died in the last couple months.
2. Countless numbers of fawns on their own with no mother.
What are you seeing?
