Just wondering what other people are seeing while hunting deer in Missouri. Our friends at the MDC report the deer kill down 22% for the first weekend. I can't find any harvest numbers beyond that first weekend. I did read a report on the MDC website where Jason Summers was qouted as saying the numbers were down the first 2 days due to bad weather. He is also qouted as saying they expect no decline in the harvest as there is a lot of hunting time left and that no decline is expected in this years harvest due to EHD.

Here is what the best deer hunters that I know are telling me:

1. Hardly any mature buck sightings. Most does are being chased and bred by yearling bucks. Several mature bucks found that died in the last couple months.

2. Countless numbers of fawns on their own with no mother.

What are you seeing?

between me and a few friends that normally kill a buck each and 2-3 does each we are still with tags in pockets as we have only been seeing small 1.5 -2 yr old bucks and fawns and very few does we went from seeing 40 50 deer in the food plots to maybe 10 -15 we have found 6 dead mature bucks in the last couple months and 5 does all look to be Ehd

In NE Mo I seen alot of movement seen a lot of yearlings but also mature bucks. I killed my bigget one to date green score of 168 and neighbor killed 171. But I don't think we were hit as bad as other areas were with EHD. I work at a processing plant and we took as many deer as we normally do.

Thanks,

Eric Young

Lots of young deer harvested around my area..............Folks I have talked to are seeing Young bucks chasing young does and seeing lots of fawns............As usual at most processors locations most could not hold off on the young deer and will be bitching about it for years to come about no "BIG" deer around!

The farm I hunt has been managed for years. We supplement feed heavy and have several food plots. Last year we saw seven bucks over 150". This year I saw 1 buck 168 7/8". Besides him every thing else has been yearlings. In 17 years this is by far the worst I've ever seen it. Not good. I came home tonight and my neighbor had 7 fawns in his front yard and no adults. I also found a two year old Monday that had been dead less than a week from EHD. On Friday I watched a coyote walk right by the carcass stop and look at it and keep walking. When I climbed down I went over to look at the carcass and nothing has been eating on it. Crazy S*#&!

Paul, I have seen that also in deer that have died from EHD .......................NOTHING has eaten them!!! I'v even seen buzzards flying around them but not once would to eat them!

how did steve do

David I don't think Steve did any good. Its hard to hunt deer while your carrying an AR15, Rocket Launcher, Napalm and hand grenades. :D
