I hear yah Mike..........Weather Man says 5+" over the next 5 days maybe more!

I know You guys are gettin pounded even harder than us. I know Adam Rowland and Susan are gettin hit hard up in Minnesota also!

Couldn't BUY a Fricken drop of water here last year now Ol Mother Natures got a HOLE in her DEPENDS!!:D

Hope everyones fawns make it thru this crap!

Hope things get better Wayne. We had 80° temps, then snow, then back to 80° for out first fawns. Gotta love Missouri weather.

Hope everything turns out ok for you Wayne...Last week we got 5 inches of rain here and it looks like we will be having rain all this week. Just when you think it can't get any worse! Hey Mike...Quit sending all that rain from Iowa up here, lol.

Everyone is sure having bad luck with weather this fawning season and I hope everyone can get thru it all right without too many losses.

We were able to save a buck and doe fawn this morning...making it out to the pens probably within minutes of the buck fawn dieing. His temp wouldn't even register on the thermometer and thought it was broke before I came to realize how cold that fawn was. I figured he was in the 80s since after an hour of working on him he was at 92.5*. He's warmed up, had some colostrum for energy and back out with mom right now. But unfortunately, our loaded Pierce Whitetails yearling doe, bred to one of the nicest yearlings we've raised to date had a doe fawn that didn't make it. She would have been an awesome doe fawn and a huge loss for us.

In my area, the weather (so far!) says that we should see the sun tomorrow but chance of thunderstorms every day for the next 10 days. We have 2 does having fawns right now, another running the fence, another hoofing the other girls and walking the fence and ALOT that are ready to go.

Good luck to all my deer friends...get the fawns warmed up before you give up on them! I put my in a port a crib, tent it with a blanket and direct heat into it. Brad Harter said he saved one with a warm water bath and Trista and Adam Rowland have been doing heating pads all day today. I saved one that was flat on the ground last year with glazed over eyes and as we walked up we moved her leg just a little bit and moaned. Hour later she was sucking away!

UPDATE!!

Alice had a Buck(Already named him Tea Stain in honor of this pissy weather) and a Doe and are doing GREAT!

Will Probably be gathering all 12 fawns up and putting them in the fawn barn since the Weather sounds like heavy storms and more rain tonight! Only 16 more to fawn and 5 day forecast looks aweful all week

Hope everyone fawns make it thru this strech of crappy weather!

THANKS everyone for your support.............STRESS of a DEERFARMER is a TERRIBLE thing! LOL

Wayne glad it worked out for you.

After replying to your post my son come home and said I had a doe walking funny up at the fence. So I went out in the rain to find her having my first born fawn. I have not been over to check it yet because she is acting if there is another. The rain has stopped

and fawn is up and moving around. If it is a doe I will call it Memory.

Made these barrels for the fawns over the last two weeks. Have about $10 in each one, $5 for barrel, and about $5 for 2 - 2ft. long green-treated 2x6's [one on each end] and I split a bag of wood shavings to 5 barrels. I have 4 in each doe pen. I have 52 barrels out. I set them up about 1 inch off the ground and drilled 5 holes in the bottom for drainage. Put them in the fence line and the young fawns walk right into them in lay down. I have seen the same fawns pick the same barrel for over 4 days in a row. I had newborns in them this morning when I got up. It takes a few days for the does and fawns to get used to them. I have fawns go to these over the sheds. I get them from a dairy supply company. Takes about 6 minutes to make one, will last forever. We have had 22 days of rain in May, and they are talking rain every day this week.

Have 40 fawns on the ground, and I'd say over 1/2 where in the barrels this afternoon, when I fed the does.

Awesome idea Gary.......I am going to try this.....you can even put feed in there for them and the big deer won't be able to get to it.......where did you say you got the plastic barrels? A diary supply company? What's the name.....and what types of things do they supply? I am just trying to figure out where I can get them around my area....

We have been using the plastic barrels for years and did an entire TV episode about them and other things we do for fawns. They work great. Cut out the ends and stuff them with hay. Place them along the fence line and put a stake next to them to hold them along the fence. It will keep them dry and warm.

Brent, How did things turnout ?

I tried this last year it works pretty good, but after the sun hit those plastic barrels for a couple weeks they will start to get flat, I need to figure out how to get them to stay round. I thought about putting a stick in the middle.

to keep the barrels from flating DO NOT CUT the outside of the barrel only cut on the ends The outside of the barrel has thicker plastic so again only cut on the ends nothing on the sides! I have used these for years and they work! JIM SIMONSON

I left about 2 inches inside the ring of the cover. Only did one end, otherwise the fawns walk through. Left about 4 inches on the bottom of the cover, so I could screw the 2x6 to the end of the bottom. Can't see that they could go flat. Can stand on them.

Is the drought over in western Minnesota, Jim?

I had my last set of fawns tonight and haven't ever been so stressed with all this rain. There has been flooding everywhere around here. I'm ready for some sunshine and beautiful days. Hope everybody is fairing well with the weather.
