I am looking for additional sires to outcross with that have and pass large single G-1's. I like the appearance of a large typical frame more when they have this trait. Arty's G-1's are a great example of what I mean. In my opinion if he had multiple brow tines it would detract from his appearance. Thunderstorm has done a good job throwing large balanced single G-1's for me. I would appreciate advice or helpful info if someone could post some other lines that pass this trait. Some non-typicals are more impressive with multiple brows. I am not telling anyone to breed this way. I would just like a little help.

Thanks

Brett

I know of that deer. Do you know if he passed the single large g-1 trate on consistently? Roy Weaver's Sneakers buck had huge single g-ones also but I am uncertain of his pass down.

Robo, and Doubletake are the first that come to mind. I don't know about the passdown.

And maybe Gb Ultramax. If anyone has any Bucks out of GB Ultramax, please post pics and age.

I don't know how many offspring he has but Mountain Ridge Whitetail's Big Heavy has given me two bucks with brows as you described.  I too want to breed a line with those traits.  I'm hoping my larger buck passes those traits on because I plan on breeding him to my does this year.  His brows are much larger than last year and they look like they might split a little bit.

I know of that deer. Do you know if he passed the single large g-1 trate on consistently? Roy Weaver's Sneakers buck had huge single g-ones also but I am uncertain of his pass down.I have a one year old out of him that has about 6 inch single brow tines. He is the only buck I have from him.

Short Creek

Your advice is solid. I have a Ranger on Thunderstorm doe on my farm. In my opinion there is a pattern where a ridge that carries multiple small points up the front of the brow on most Maxbo sons that gets more defined as they mature. Ranger offspring haven't carried on this trait. I believe the Peach doe is very influential much like Arty's dam because she is bred so tight.

I like the large single brows also. The brow tine seems to be one of the mysteries to me, you just don't see exceptional long brows on most deer, wild or captive. To get a brow over 8" in your pen is still an accomplishment. Think about it, yes we get some bucks with nice brows, but how many do we raise with short brows before we get a nice one. In the wild, if you shoot a buck with 5" or longer brows he is a real trophy aronnd here.

The single brow is more appealing than one that splits, to me. However, Most all of my bucks split their brows after they are one or two years old. I have one buck this year that Has very nice nice long single brows. He is a 2 year old, he's not very wide, and he won't score super high ( I am predicting he'll score 150-160" when he's all done) but he is so appealing because of his brows. Bell I will try and get a picture of my buck today, I would be curious of your opinion on his brows.if you don't mind.

Happy 4th to all! Let's enjoy our freedom and celebrate with our family and friends, and thank you so much to all our troops. Past and present.

Sneakers, Maxbo Impact and Highway 10 (3 pics below) were my favorite long brow tine producers. We bred Maxbo Impact to some Sneakers does and got some very good brow tine bucks. We kept the does that cross produced. Highway 10 always had brows so long he scraped them on the feeders. They were single at one and 2 and split at 3 and older. I think they were over 14 a couple times.

Sam those are some serious brows, I am almost embarrassed to post the pic of mine now, lol. My bucks brows aren't big as far as the deer industry goes, but he is the second nicest clean brow buck I have had on my farm, most of mine split, or are only 6" long. It's hard to tell in the pic, but his left brow should go 8 or 9" . I am pleased, I think I will keep him another year and see what he can do.

Heres a 3 yr old this yr with decent single brows, interesting he has a similar pedigree to post#7. He's double Rolex on top over a Greenhorn and Jack The Ripper JR doe, which Greenhorn is out of Avalanche

Thanks those are a some nice examples of single brow everyone. The single balanced brow tines influence on the look of the entire antlers is interesting. Surprisingly, there are fewer large breeding sires than I thought showing strong single G-1's. There may now be fewer doe that also carry the trait so it is beginning to become rare.

This is  BW Yukon..  some of the best brows in the business IMO. This is him at 4 years old still carrying clean and tall brows.

Tom

Where do you think the big single brow is coming from the old school Goliath/Mary doe or something on the sire side?

Yukon does have great single 1's.

Yukons brows are coming from Goliath. Goliath always had big brows and passed it to his offspring. Bw sunny passed good brows but usually multiples. Most people don't give the ole Goliath the credit for shaping Nathan's herd but he was very influential.
