Fair Chase Hunting?

I say it is only fair chase when you use no bait no cameras and are in the wild with no fence. Not knowing what is out there or what to expect is the most exciting thing for me. Makes the minds imagination think of all kinds of things that could come walking by. To me not knowing is more exciting. With this being said you could have this same experience behind a high fence if done properly.

Some high fence hunts are a joke others are awesome and natural. Boils down to what makes a person happy or satisfied. To each his own everyone is different.

When it comes to record books you have to draw the line somewhere. So I believe anything behind a fence is separate from anything in the wild with free range.
 
I hunted along the border of Delaware and Philadelphia County. Deer had free roam but they were as dumb as a box of rocks! The deer had virtually no hunting pressure and were used to people.  Shot a Buck 30 minutes after getting into my stand and the other Deer came running to see why he was flopping around. Since I had 3 Doe tags I decided to take one. Deer scattered and in 15 minutes they started creeping back to see what was going on. The best part was that they followed me while I was dragging the Deer out, and staying at a distance of maybe 20 - 30 yards all the way to my truck. 


This is so called fair chase because there are no fences? BS!!  Never had that happen at our preserve. Fair chase is in the eye of the beholder! I have a friend in Texas who used a recording of a feeder throwing corn. He tells me the Deer come running. No fence, no fowl! 
 
Yep, and I have participated in the fair chase herd reduction hunts at the state parks here in Indiana. Those were some of the tamest deer I have ever seen. One of the first years you could take a buck and 4 does. Four of us had was done the first day. But since its a herd reduction hunt through the DNR its fine. Night before the hunt an officer was telling us how the deer were starving and skin and bones. But to my surprise the first deer I seen was a 187" 3yr old that weighed 327lbs at there check in when they checked his age.
 
Something about them city folks whether it be deer or people. Just saying. I do agree its in eye of beholder as well go were it makes you happy.
 
It's kinda funny, I was told by a hunter that it was unethical to hunt behind a fence regardless if it 1 acre or 1,000 acres.


I know his brother real well, and the same individual hunts a strip of woods that has a fence on one side and Susquehanna river on the other side. Their is a 50-60 yard wide strip that the Deer are forced to pass through. His brother told me that the deer hug the fence, and he hunts in between . I BS him into believing that the park was contemplating removing the fence do to the fact that it gives unethical hunters an unfair advantage over the Deer.  
 
I run some put and take Pheasant hunts, and have had several conversations with Pheasant hunt clients, that look down their nose at preserve deer hunts, all the while kicking out planted birds.


 


Can't we just all respect each other's chosen methods?

Same thing as how they stock farm raised trout here in Pa, they dump them in a creek while the fishermen stand there waiting !  They have no problem with that! LOL  but will be quick to put down high fence . We live in a society of hypocrites

Fish commission and a local trout club stock Trout down the road from my house. People will be elbow to elbow. One of the guys was catching like crazy.


He was using what looked like a tiny balloon filled with mush. Every time he casted it, their was a small gray cloud that would form, and he was getting hits like crazy. He told me later that the bait he was using is the same thing the hatcheries were feeding the trout. 


The same guys against Preserves are the ones following the the trout truck. Gotta love em! 
 
Lol. I have said that for years. Way more hunt in hunting a deer in a preserve over "fishing" a farmed trout. I am one that also follows the trout truck though I must admit.

Funny thing is, allot of the guys following the trucks are also the first to offer assistance to the guys who are stocking the Trout.
 
That's very true. They have no problems carrying buckets full of farm raised trout to their "honey hole"
