I looking To buy a small trailer for hauling my deer I will be getting. I have been looking at small horse trailers. What do I need to look for when looking at trailers? I'm sure ventilation is a must.

Buy a simple enclosed trailer and modify it to suit your needs. 6x12 runs around $2800 new. Divide it up into compartments costs about $300. Use marine ports for vents on the sides costs about $6 each. Make sliding door right ahead of hinged rear door and you can load anywhere for less than $3500.we locate our ports so you can open and close dividers from outside. After all these years I still don't like being in the trailer with mature bucks in October

How about building some kind of transport box? I have a flatbed trailer I can haul transport boxes on. What is your opinion on that. If I did how much room in each box would deer need?

My boxes are approx 2'x4' boxes from Troy Ridge and are plenty big enough to haul a grown doe or a couple small or yearling does.  I'm not sure how they'd like going into shorter boxes but the 4' boxes are a little long to load/unload level when a deer steps to one end.  I'd prefer them to be a couple inches narrower and bigger hand rails personally.  I've heard of people who own forklifts building bigger boxes that take up the entire bed to allow them to haul more deer.

I'd try to find someone in your area that would help you out before buying a trailer though.

If you definitely getting a trailer I like the burton bumper pulls (I believe it's in the 16-20k range).  I'd get some pics and see what you do / don't like and go from there. Josh Newton has a aluminum gooseneck that has some nice features and David Westbrook has a new custom built aluminum gooseneck.  If you've got time and you are handy you could definitely build a nice trailer without breaking the bank starting w a plain enclosed trailer.
