We have a 3 month old Fawn that is not able to stand. Was fine yesterday. She is eating good and we took to vet today. Can't find anything wrong other than slightly dehydrated. We are weening her and recently went down to one bottle a day. We have been given her pedialyte all day. Will eat pellets and apples & her milk. No fever. Just very weak. Vet tested sugar and it was fine. Gave her baking soda mixed with water too just in case it was acidosis. She can hold her head up and trys to get up but can't. Anyone else seen this before??

We had a doe from last year do that acted like its back was broke could hold its head up but couldnt get up even when it tried the vet ran some test and made some calls the only thing they could come up with was a thimean deficiency gave some shots and ended up putting on IV and it still didnt make it so did otopsy and found nothing wrong would definitely ask your vet maybe you can get it in time hope this helps Nick

Just went through this 2 weeks ago, found buck fawn same way, thought it had all kinds of illness but turned out must of hit fence, gave dex daily and bose twice, he was in our house for 8 days , made full recovery and is back outside playing with his buddies, dont give up on him.

I think that THIAMINE DEFICIENCY is what the previous post meant to read... I would consider giving the deer some B complex shots and contacting a deer vet like [email protected] who posts on these boards.

Well she is still alive this morning but not much change. Took her bottle and some leaves and acting alert. But still not good. Thanks for your advise. Will check with vet on Thiamine Deficiency and the bo-se.

Could be Polio, thiamine/B1 should work but it will take a few days for legs to work again and some times a couple weeks before they can walk right. Make sure the bottle is not 500, its hard to dose fawns at that strength.

Started with the thiamine/B1 shots. She is able to stand for short periods of time with assitance getting there. Definitely an improvement. Still eating good. Keeping our fingers crossed.

Thank you all for your advise. Just wanted to let you know she is doing so much better. It's amazing really considering how she was just 5 days ago. We are going to continue with one shot a day for 3 more days and hopefully she be good as new in no time.

Has lost control of back legs....to keep a really long week long story short.....fawn had started 1 week ago lethargic and 103.8 Fever, went off bottle....gave electrolytes and banamine and baytril, next morning, back end was real wobbly, gave another injection of banamine and b complex....that night fever normal but couldntcouldn't get up.....fever has stabilized since....we have an iv in his neck, x ray was done no trauma, we gave naxcel, iv fluids, and banamine , complex b vitamins, bose , plenty of ppro biotics....started eating goat milk on own now, eating and pooping normal (solid poop), looks to be alert.....fever is down temp holding 101.5 To 102.2....but no use of back leI can stand him up....he will.tighten muscles in back legs can stand on own for a few seconds, but will fall over if not held steady, no chance of a step though.......any help would be appreciated..... we r new to deer farming, this is our first set of fawns.....thanks in advance for any help u may offer us.....amy

we had a fawn 3 years ago that we found laying on her side could not get up at all . so we called our vet she told us to keep here by herself in a stall . she said she will need a lot of attention so here is what we did . gave her 2cc of thiamine and 2cc of dectomethasone per day and massaged her legs and moved her legs ever day and held here up a little each day to help strenthen her legs, till she was back on her feet again. took us about two weeks, today she is doing fine. just had a buck and doe fawn this year
