I have never done drugs before, but this has to be the most addictive thing in he world..i know that sometimes we all butt heads sometimes on certain issues, but i would like to apologize to anyone on here if i ever affended anyone..{i dont think that i ever have} but if i did , im sorry.. us deer farmers need to stick together.. we are a family and we are blessed to do a thing that we love.. Thank you all and god bless!!!!

Great post Richie,No need to apologize, your from Alabama that's problem enough, but i wont hold it against you. LOL

Love this thing we call deer farming. I get to live my dreams everyday by being apart of this industry. I get to share this dream with the ones i love and all the friends i have met on the way. The beautiful animals that we all raise, some a little small ( like in Alabama )lol but truthfully majestic and incredible animals we all get to work with. A great industry indeed. Thanks for sharing.

Richard you dont say much right but I would say this time I am with you.

yup like snakes once you get bit your done, trust me, got it bad.

Well I agree 110%................Bought 5 deer in the fall of 07 went to the Top 30 in 08 and by that fall I had 35 deer! Full BLOWN incurable DEERFARMING FEVER!!!!!!!! My wife says its..............UNTREATABLE!................That why I always say"I'M JUST LIVIN THE DREAM"

Wayne i heard your dream was to have atleast 100 deer!!! Is misty really gunna let you live your dream.I think you have enough room for that many with all the fawn pens you have but do you really think she is gunna help you feed all those fawns????

Trust me - if you have that many you DO NOT bottle feed! We have a total of about 550 deer and that is why we do NOT bottle feed unless absolutely necessary!

wowser 550 deer....thats a handful to deal with.your pens must be huge and with lots of food.I would not want the feed bill for that many..

I havn't posted in awhile, but deerfarming is addictive. This has been a bad year, but I hope it turns around. In since 2001, and still fighting. No Give Up, here!

We do this full time and have two full time employees. Even with that we don't have time to bottle feed. We have about 45 breeding pens that are anywhere from 2 acres to 5 acres. We also have two high fenced hunting areas. We've been doing this for about 16 years. Yes, our feed bills have been through the roof the past couple years - would sure like to see the cost of corn come down for one thing. Enough with the ethanol!

Thats what i call an operation.45 pens???? that would take a full time person just to keep the grass cut in the pens.that sounds like a self sustaining place, raise your own and send them over to the hunting area.corn would be bad enough but how much hay is it to keep that many mouths fed in the winter.

We feed alfalfa that is locally grown and actually that is pretty reasonable. We use Antler Max pellets and that is pretty pricey. We are a self sustaining operation - as my husband says, we have the factory and the show room. We don't mow all the pens - usually just the ones with fawns. We have all underground water lines to automatic water cups and large gravity feeders.

It is a thriving business between hunts and selling breeding stock and semen.

Actually we hope to retire some time in the coming years and will be looking to sell the business -

G'day all.Over 40 years since I caught the sickness. The only cure is more deer.Seen the industry crash a few times, the last one saw every one who was not 100% go.Ill never sell (couldn't imagine it).The place will go to trust, for deer research, conservation & species restoration.Currently working with Moluccan Rusa. Its one of six sub-species of rusa & probably the most endangered animal on the planet.Cheers Sharkey
