I asked this in the bottle fed fawn study , but figured a new thread would get more feedback. Has anyone used ADM's kid milk replacer for their fawns, and if so, were you happy with it or not?

Thanks ,

Tom

Hi Tom, we here at Applecreek started using ADM kid replacer this year. Leo from ADM was at the farm today from his monthly visit evaluating the third pillar of success (Nutrition) We all know the first and second are genetics and stress. He felt our fawns under bottle look healthy. Hope to see you up at our Deer Farmer Seminars in July.

ALL ARE WELCOME!!!!

Thank you for your input . Do you feel this milk replacer is better than others you have used in the past, so far. Also , it would be interesting to know any size difference, if any, in the fawns at weaning, compared to other popular brands (Fox Valley, Zoologic, Superior, etc.). I noticed the price of ADM would be one incentive to use it. I plan on trying it next year but just want to hear a little positive/negative feedback from other users.

my dad tried adm this year and had a hard time getting the fawns started. He eventually gave up and put them back on the mothers. some fawns are more stubborn than others, might not of had anything to do with the formula.

Do you know how long he waited to pull fawns off mother, and how long he waited to try to bottle feed once he did take from the mother? I'm not sure about how all the other bottle feeders feel out there , but I have found that seperating the fawn from even seeing any adult deer ,especially the mother, makes the fawn warm up to you a little better. Just a thought.

Hi, Im Joe from Apple Creek Whitetails, I work with all the adult deer on a day to day basis, and tag fawns. We have an individual (Nate) here on site 24/7, and all he does is take care of fawns and feeds. Currently we are bottle feeding around 40 fawns right now but are expecting around 150, maybe more or less. We are using the ADM feed right now which I see some great benefits. I am really sorry to hear your situation Edgemoor. Last year we used goats milk and it worked well but preparation was time consuming, and it seemed like powder was the way to go to be more efficient. We chose ADM because they have things in there powder that we feel is a big benefit. We weigh all of our powder and water, so we know we are consistent every time. That way there is no room for error, just food for thought. Also they have CitriStim, PremiDex and a direct fed microbial. Our goal is to get those ruminants working and going as soon as possible. So we introduce there fawn starter pellet after seven days and we have some that are eating the pellet as early as 8 days. If you guys have any questions about deer or just wanna talk you can give me a call at 715-853-2334.
