Anyone Deer Farming in North Carolina?

Looking for some advice and suggestions for to start up a deer farm, Elk farm in North Carolina. We have done a ton of research! Just wondered if anyone could help me locate some locals to maybe visit and ask questions. Thank you in advance.

Not sure i have ever heard of a farm in NC. Are you sure its even possible to get a permit to have them? I know i have seen high fence in South Carolina a few times on my way to the beach but have never seen any animals behind the fence!

Unless something has changed recently I am pretty certain there are no Deer Farms in NC.......and I do not believe that you are allowed to Deer Farm in that State.......sorry for the bad news.......

I did business with a guy from North Carolina not long ago. So there is at least one Deer Farm and I believe he has a preserve as well. He may be the only one.

RALEIGH -- The state Wildlife Resources Commission is setting up a task force to look into the issues involved in the licensing of deer farming operations in North Carolina.

Commission executive director Gordon Myers said Friday the panel tabled proposed changes that would have expanded importation of deer and licensing of deer farming. Instead, the commission will establish the task with members from the state Department of Agriculture, hunting groups, public health and other groups.

The task force will report back to the commission in May.

The Humane Society of the United States praised the decision, saying deer farming operations increase the risk of disease, including the fatal, incurable chronic wasting disease. The disease has been found in 22 states.

North Carolina has a moratorium on farms for deer and other cervids.

Its been tough here in NC. We used to have farms and it was growing untill 2005. The stste locked it up for 5 years to study cwd { the political disease it has become thanks to qdma and David Cobb at WRC and humane society} We were supposed to be able to resume operations after the 5 year period but they have put off and always bring up a new reasons to stop things. The state has no experience in the deeer farming industry and the comissioners are all political appointees with no wildlife or manage experience.The state reps are just plain jokes to the community of hunting and wildlife management. Supposedly the new governer is changing things and the current comissioners will be out in July.Last March there was a meeting and you should have heard qdma rep Joe Hamilton{ who is a good guy} almost cry when talking about captive programs and how bringanimals in direct contact causes disease spread. I asked if this is true why does qdma sell and endorse a product called trophy rock thats 96% salt with no health advantage to deer and if it congregates them in one spot for direct contact why do you sell this. He side stepped the question and would not answer it. It was also video taped byb a well known deer biologist and nutritionist and they were cautious with their words.It almost passed last summer untill Penn had cwd report and it all went to hell again. Their so called task force is very limited with professionals on our side to help us out. I will find out more info later next week and update everyone on this issue. Its a great state to farm in with good weather and climate.
