Has anyone ever had a fawn born blind. He was a little clouded in one eye at birth and after 3 days both eyes clouded over. I have started it on Thiamine Hydrochloride and some drops. Anyone have any other ideas or past fixes!
 
Mike, we had one born with cataracts many years ago. We had to pull him and bottle feed since he couldn't see his mama to feed from her. He did have just enough vision to avoid running into things. As he grew, his eyes grew but the cataracts stayed the same size and he was able to see a little better. His eyes were clouded too.
 
if it is a thiamine deficeincy it will clear up, in my experience, within 12-24 hours. If no it is probably caused by something else.

I have had 4 fawns for sure with this problem, I used vit b and thiamen and it never worked on any of them, I hope you have better luck then I did! JIM

Jim, Were they blind in both eyes and totally blind?
 
Yes that is correct they were blind. They would spin in circles and they would always be in the same general area! I think it had alittle to doe with the breeding but not all of it! JIM Call me anytime to chat 507-227-9194

I thought that spinning in circles were A sign of Thiamine deficiency? What are the signs of Thiamine deficiency? NOT ba a smart a$!? I really want to know and be Correct. Thanks. :confused:
 
Remi,

It would depend on the 'type' of circles. Tight circles and head tilts would indicate neurologic involvement such as underdevelopment of neural tissue, lesions, etc. However, 'wandering' circles secondary to blindness could be because of the thiamine deficiency which would be causing the blindness. I hope this helps!

This little guy does not spin. He just bumps into the walls of the playpen i have him in and has no reaction to anything in his face. He is real healthy anf doin the leg kick and all while drinking. Sucks that its a great breeding but sucks worse to see a little guy in this shape! Both eyes are clouded over!
 
That is exactly how mine acted! I lost all four of them and the days lived ranged 25 to 30 days! Maybe you will turn out better! Mine when in the pen, would not try to lay down and hide. They stood up and no matter what you waved infront of them they never blinked or turned their heads! JIM
 
How did the fawn turn out? I had a blind fawn born this morning the eyes were not cloudy! I will try the shots but I have little faith! JIM
