Bloat?

We have a yearling doe fawn that is very tame with bloat. She can be touched but I don't know how much she will take. She looks like she is going to have a fawn in about 60 days but this is not the problem. She wasn't bloated 4 hours ago. What can any of the members suggest to fix the problem and how much time do we have to fix the problem before it becomes critical. Thanks.
 
I am not a pro but in my experience... I have given mylicon baby before shipping and also gas x pills and (tubed them when I had fawns bloat but that was fawns)...

I learned to give the c&d to prevent that...

With dogs their intestines can flip around the gas bubble and that ... if not taken care of right away will cause death...

Painted, do you ever give the fawns gas pills? I have noticed they bloat really fast, I lost one last year, I went out to feed her and she was bloated, probably from the previous feeding, So I ran to the store to get pills gone maybe 15 minutes and came home and she was dead. I have since leaned tubing is the best thing to do for fawns, but how fast do the pills work?
 
I gave them the infant drops (I didn't want to have to wait for the pills to dissolve)

It did seem to help,but I also tubed them...because I didn't want to wait and see.I have given the pills to my grown deer when I put them down it also seem to help some but I rock my deer when they are down and that is a life saver.
 
You measure a feeding tube and insert it the same as a feeding tube and release the stomach gas.You may need to do it several times.
 
You can either tube them to release the gas or give them gas x and good ol vegetable oils work great too ! Peanut , corn and soybean oils work the best .. Tubing works pretty good for straight gas type bloating but if it's a foam type bloat it doesn't work as well . Just an opinion !!
 
I forgot to mention in extreme cases you can release the gas with a needle on the upper left side just behind the ribs . Use a fairly large needle that the gas will flow through as well as long enough to reach into the rumen !! Use this method only when you have to . Just my opinion !!
 
Tubing,Now that would make a great short video to learn that could save lot of fawns,and tubing scares He!! out of most.never doing it or seeing it.i know when deer need emergency attention Some panic, I guilty. and the Big needle sticking in.:eek:
 
Do you have the feeding tube?I will make a video of it for you it is easy the tube is about $6.00 I can get you one if you want from my vet or you can order them from several places.I take a small syringe 6 or 12 ml (I will look) pull the plunger out cut the needle end off wrap it in vet wrap to make it soft ...lube the tube a very little bit with a water soluble lube....measure the tube hold it at the mouth and measure to the belly...pull the syringe in the mouth with a small strip of vet wrap wrap around the mouth ...don't cover the nose...now lube a little in your hand and wipe on the tube...wipe off excess...now place in and feed it threw the tube into the belly it is hard to get it into the lungs...BUT if the tube will not go far or when you are done listen and feel for breath IF IT IS IN THE LUNG THEY WILL DIE ...NOW I put a large syringe on the other end and pinch the tube slowly dump what you need to feed the fawn in and let it go...Like I said I will make a video...It is a life saver.

PS I am an EMT and would not do the needle through the side...
 
Please do a video of the tube.That would be a great thing to know.It sound's like when you need to do that,you better know how before you need to or it will be to late.
 
I don't know ever since i hit my late thirties I have had this bloat problem :eek: my stomach just seems to keep getting bigger and bigger.....wonder if the needle behind the ribs would work for me:D!! Hey Mitch here you go I left the door wide open for you!!!:D
 
If you have a still born fawn or have one die before you find it to help it this is a good time to practice on how long to measure the tube like BJ said. After cut to fit practice sliding the tube to the stomach. One thing that is missing is the air that you`ll hear if you get the tube in the wind pipe. Like BJ said most of the time you`ll get it in the right spot. The more you insert the tube the more comfortable you will feel doing it and you won`t even think about it you`ll just do it just like giving a shot. As cheap as they are it`s best to have a couple because if you cut one for a new fawn it may be too short for an older fawn. This is the way we leaned from a clinic put on here in Ohio. This is one great, cheap tool that just may save you a fawn one day.
 
See Dennis you caught me typing so I had my mouth shut. I`d had that bloat for some time also. The best I found for my bloat was more food and drink tends to make it go away. :D
 
Dennis,I know Mitch.He wont tacke that one!.or I, hits to close to Home,them berrys and icecream getting Me, And MItch Like Robin, in a nest,his own words,his mouth is always open looking for food.Paintedmeadows I hope i never have to tube one.but i will if that what it takes.i was thinking Russel was gonna fix for video clip,s i think plenty would like to see.like said this is a scary procedure for Most, and ME for sure,if you never saw. I went to video a small demo for you...I have a small choppy thing... I will try and post

...but I taped me removing an antler that was hanging on too long on a friend deer and put my camera in my med box with an iodine/peroxide mixture:D:eek::(well on the back roads we live on the bounce of the truck shook up the mixture which sprayed all over my camera:D:( I'll get back to ya soon)
