Can you bottle feed fawns 2x's a day? Does anyone know of anyone that has done it and what their results were.

Thanks, Big D

I always heard that Vit -D milk gives the fawns the runs and dehydrates them?

I appreciate the input. What I was after is the 2x's a day. From a management stand point, can you just feed twice?

Thanks, Big D

I personally would not feed just two feedings right away after birth, it just seems like such a big time span between feedings for a newborn, they need a lot of attention those first few weeks while they most likely to get scours, bloat, ect..and they need to eat frequently so they can start growing like weeds, mama would feed them 4-8 times if they were with her when they are that young. I work full time, so I feed mine before and after work, i get retired family members/friends, or family/friends with days off to feed during the times Im at work. I hope this helps, just my opinion, i hope more people respond and help you out.

I would not feed twice until they were at least 8 weeks old and eating solid food to go with the 2 feedings. But, I have never tried it. Just my opinion.

Why would you want to only feed 2 times a day? I dont think it would be very good for the fawn to begin with and even if they did survive i believe they would be behind their whole lives.I dont think that will help your program for the future as they would be small and mabey only have single fawns when they are bred.I would not recomend doing that but then again i am one of the ones that likes to get pile drived by a half dozen fawns when i go in their pen.

Why 2x's? Only for time purpose. I only have so much time in a day. Being gone at work during the day I don't really trust anyone else with the fawns. I have some friends who are cattle farmers and they only feed their calves twice a day so I was wondering if I could do the same with fawns. The biggest thing is I don't want to hurt the fawns.

Back in the day I feed my fawns 2 times a day after the first three weeks but the first there weeks we would feed 3 times a day. But now we feed 4 times a day for the first 4 weeks and then go to 3 times at the 5th week then 2 times a day on the 8th week hope this helps. We have not every just feed 2 tiimes a day on newborn's. The only way to know if it will work is to try it and see. I would just keep a eye on them and if they need it you may have to go to three times. I know farms that feed just 3 times on newborn's and they do fine. Dont know of any that just feed 2 times a day on newborn's

I know farms that do 2 times a day and have had good results. Personally its not how i do it. But i understand the time crunch and the trust issues. Im currently fighting with the wife on planning vacation around fawning season again. You think she would be used to it by now! LOL

I work full time as well and I feed 3 times a day 5:30 am, 3:30 pm, & right before I head to bed around 10:00 pm That give close to even intervals but if it is a shorter time cut back the milk while if it is longer give more bc they will want more. They dont know what time it is so make it work for you.

Thank you all for the input. Still a few days away from having to decide what to do but it won't be long.

I feed 4x a day the first 2 week's because I want to feed smaller amount's each feeding, then go to 3x a day untill 7 or 8 week's old, 2x a day untill 11 week's then 1x a day for another week or two. It is tough the first few week's because of work but I try to find someone to help when I cant do it.

Starting off with twice a day feedings will stunt their growth immensly and is just overall unhealthy for them.
