Breeding brother and sister???

I was wondering if its bad to breed a brother and sister? Same sires but different dams...



Example G36 daughter bred to G36 son New Image or should I skip a year and breed to Cardiac Kid if I can get semen?

RyanM84, I would do it, Have done it and will do it some more! For me without seeing it on paper the Dams being different but the same Sire is what we are doing and from that then we will outcross that daughter to something that would have a "trigger" for me would be the line that is most proven from say the anchor doe top or bottom. We will be winding our does up and then will outcross down the road.

So your saying its ok to breed brother and sister but when I get a doe fawn outcross breed her to something else. My doe has Flees G36 as sire and Crabclaw daugter as dam.

I dont think there is anything wrong with it but we prefer to come back later on the line. For instance if we have a Maxbo daughter we will breed to say XL or another Maxbo line deer and then come back on Maxbo. So the offspring of the anchor doe 3 generations down we come back on. However this is getting a line pretty tight so we would then outcross to a different line and then come back the next generation. A lot of people do it differently but if you look at a lot of the deer today most have multiple genetic lines, ie Slick, X-Factor, etc.

If same sire different dams, 100% yes. Most deer in lines are 1/2 brothers and sisters.

Is that not what made ARTY........Brother bred his sister ? I used Maxin Eagle to back up my A/I and his daughter was bred to Maxbo Ranger and well she didn't stick! I got a single doe fawn that is perfectly healthy........but she just catches everyones eye when they see her. She just has a "look" about her. I guess we will see She is a Maxin Eagle/Maxin Eagle/Maxin/ Maxbo Pickets sister! Think she's wound up a "little" tight ?

Jake Glick said she wound so tight her hairs on fire! LOL

Wayne, we have a similar situation I think.



We have a BW Grand Canyon/BW Sundowner/BW Nick (BW Goliath/Mary cross)



bred to Sun Canyon.



Sun Canyon's pedigree is BW Grand Canyon/BW Sundowner/BW King David (BW Goliath/Mary cross)



So, it looks pretty tight to me, can't wait to see what we get out of this cross considering the BW Grand Canyon/BW Sundowner cross seems to be working well for the people have done it. Should be real interesting.

I think line-breeding is exciting. Your taking bloodlines that you like and building consistency into your herd.



When it comes time to out-cross I will use a bloodline that has proven itself to work on the lines that I am line-breeding with. Attention to detail is important, and being aware of what is working on other farms is key.



Also what I am doing is the does that are line-bred pretty tight is crossing with a buck that has 3/4 different blood and 1/4 of the bloodlines I am line-breeding with being in the anchor position. My theory is I needed to bring in new blood but wanted to keep a little the same for consistency and try to keep the out-come a little more predictable.

Half Brothers and Sisters “can” produce big deer.. I wouldn’t however suggest breeding womb brothers and sisters to each other. That’s a recipe for disaster down the line.
