Hello Everyone.  I have read the previous broke leg cases that have already been discussed and just wanted to make sure I am taking the correct actions.  I have a doe that has broke her leg just above her back foot.  It is dangling but there are no cuts.  From my understanding, it is probably best to just let the leg heal itself.  Thanks for any advice.

Yes and keep her as quiet as possible. In with a fawn or two, feed and water close to bedding area.  If you can touch her you could give her a shot for pain and swelling discomfort.

I had a buck compound fracture, in fact shatter his leg, and yes, it broke the skin on both sides. I treated him myself by thoroughly cleaning the entire wound with alcohol first, then blue kote and finally neosporin. I gave him Draxin as per his body weight (1/2 dose IM and other 1/2 dose SQ). I followed up in four days with another dose. I have a holding area I was able to put him in, away from all the other deer and with solid walls to keep outside influences and stresses out. Three months later he was completely healed with a lump on his leg. After six months the lump was gone and you couldn't tell he had a break at all. Good luck.
