I have a button buck that has loose stool. He has had it off and on for a while now and he is starting to lose body mass. Any tips to get him to stiffen up and put the weight back on?

Right now I am hearing there are lots of deer that are loose all over the country. Get him in to his own pen or stall. There is a lot of coccidia going on right now. Is the stool really Black or dark brown and smeely. If so it is blood from the bowel. I have had one that is cronic. I have almost got her cleared up. 2cc Baytril 100 every other day for 7 days, along with 5 cc of Pennicillian every other day for 7 days. Do not let him back in with the other deer until he is for sure cleaned up. If you do you will be starting this process all over again. I know, I had to do it.

Baytril (enrofloxacin) is usually used for respiratory infections (like Pneumonia), can you please, MDS, let me know how it's a good choice for GI tract issues, and also, please, which Penn are you using? Sorry to bother you, I'm sure you're a very busy guy, but I am trying to treat a friend's deer who have this bloody stool issue. Will advise him of your suggestions later today.

Thank you very much.

Jared after treating I would definitly make sure you get probiotics in him to get his rumen straightened out! I have been having loose stole issues as well.......seems to have made it's way through my herd......nothing cronic though ...thank God! but I am going to treat the whole herd on a regular basis with the probiotics going forward.....a healthy rumen makes for a healthy deer!! Good luck Jared!

I had a doe that went through that, couldn't get it corrected, went on for months. the stool samples were all ok...but i found out later...and someone can correct me if i am wrong, that liver flukes don't always show up on certain fecal tests. I figure that what could have killed her, because she got so bad that she dehydrated one day in July and passed while i was away at work. Anyway I was told if it is liver flukes you can deworm freqently, like every couple days and with different types of dewormers, until the stool stiffens up again.
