Hi everyone. I was just looking to get some advice on the best way to collect urine from my deer. Also, does it need to be kept refrigerated or just out of the sun when stored. What is shelf life, etc etc. thanks

Lol!! I was wondering why nobody was answering. Luckily the guy I bought my deer from already told me his system. I was just wondering what others were doing. Oh well, I'll manage.

Thanks

great for you , you want to sell me some of your goods ?? pm me ????:D

Hey crocket, let me know when you get your private box cleared up. I'd like to talk to you more about it. Each time I try to send you one...it says its full...then I have to re write it, when I try again. For some reason it doesn't just save it so i can re send

Thanks

Thanks wetfeet. I think I'll keep mine chilled and without additives. Just need to find a market for it. Of course they banned it here in Ontario....at least for hunters to use

I used to collect and sell it small time. I used a plastic bowl on a stick to catch it before it hit the ground from tame does. Store air tight and it stays the same color and fresh in a fridge. If it gets any air , it turns dark and starts to head toward being "old". I didn't use salt or glycerine to make it more freeze prof . Any time you add two things together , they change each other....chemistry. If your urine hits the floor and runs off into something , then you have ,also in your bottle , droppings , dirt, bird crap , and anything else that is there. A deer can detect all of these things. I wouldn't worry about all of the deer smells ,but the "other" smells you aren't aware of . When I used mine , I just completed the act of a doe urinating....pure , clean , fresh.

I didn't use it to call bucks but put the smell of strange does into his area so he would check out the area more than he was going to. Make him think the area is full of does. I caught from three does and mixed the urine for use. No scaring off smart bucks with a "lure" smelling product. Only thing is time to catch the urine and amount you get. A doe pees , on average , every 45 minutes. I would go out and get them to stand up , one at a time if I could , catch the pee ..... and leave and return in 45 min. They would pee in order of when they did before so you knew which one to follow.....sounds like fun , huh? Got the kids doing it and they would make 3-5 hundred bucks a year doing it. Jim

Thanks Jim! Definitely sounds fun! I got my setup all done this week and I'm excited to start collecting. I agree totally, that any additive will take away from the finished product. Mine will be refrigerated within hours of dropping. The Pre rut is fast approaching!

Ps. I wasn't aware that a deer can pee every 45 min....sounds like me when I have 3 beers. Lol

Thanks for your message!

When you spend time waiting for one to go you get to know lots of things. The kids even would comment when one was peeing (without getting collected) that it was "wasting money". I have used commercial scents early on in my bowhunting days and had seen big bucks approach an area and hit the scent of the lure and snort and turn and get out of Dodge fast . I knew then that he had smelled this scent or lure before and knew what it meant. That is when I knew that whatever I put in the woods had to clean , pure , and natural. Jim

Lol. You have smart kids!! I totally agree with you, I'm an obsessed bow hunter and I know how smart those buggers are. I've had a few sniff and run too. Our laws are so ridiculous here....I'm allowed to bottle and sell it to photographers, so they can put it on the ground to attract deer for photos...but it is illegal for a hunter to put it on the ground to lure one in to shoot. You know...cause lots of photographers do that sort of thing. It doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out that in both cases, the urine is still being put on the ground....so what's the difference? You may say to yourself " It must be because its a rule for Ontario, to avoid giving the hunter an unfair advantage ". But nope....it's because of cwd they claim. Makes no sense, but what can you do. I seem to read a lot of topics on this forum about crazy rules, stupid laws etc etc. I have to agree with the deer farmers on here....give me a break! Of course there has to be some testing done, to ensure healthy, disease free herds etc, but some of the stuff I'm reading makes me a little angry at times. It's like they hate the industry all together. My 2 cents. Lol

You just have to go out and take some photos using the urine and then go hunting later in the same place. Then take some pics of the buck you shoot. :) Jim
