Ok, need some ideas on how to trap/kill coyotes. Tonight they were really close. My dogs were going NUTS - went out to check and heard them yapping/howling. Got my rifle - went outside but could not see them - its too overgrown. My neighbor just called and told me she saw about 4 coyotes cross the street onto my property. I will take them out instantly if I can only see them :( How can I trap/kill these bast*rds??? It goes without saying - my girls will be sleeping inside 2nite.

Thank you-

Gail

if your proprty opens up to where you can see them easily try a little bait pile to bring them out

Where my house sits its clear - but I'm ontop of a big hill. It's clear by my driveway _ I can set up a bait there. Oh yea, I'm gettin excited at the thought of this! Where I heard them tonight was behind my hill on another hill. I know confusing. It's very overgrown there and I can't see them but can def hear them. What can I use to bait them with - raw chicken? Do I use a live animal trap (cage)? I can't wait to put a bullet thru their nasty little heads :)

BTW - LOVE your profile pick!! Way 2 cute!!! :)

Use a recording of a newborn baby crying (human) and that will bring them in. Otherwise buy a wounded rabbit call.

I don't think you will ever catch them in a box trap they are way to smart for that. If you use a bait pile make sure it isn't in line with a neighbors house so the shot is safe. Good luck getting them they can cause alot of havoc.

Thank you to all who responded.

Do I use a recording device in addition to a food bait? Will raw, bloody chicken work?

My dogs will keep them out of the fence - I'm sure. But, I am more worried about my girls freaking out and running into the fence and breaking a neck, leg, etc. I hate those freakin coyotes.

stinky meat works the best may not be pleasent but roadkill usualy works pretty good. steaking it to the ground will help keep them in the open longer otherwise they may drag it off before u get a shot

I would suggest fly bait (blue marblin) and some raw hamburger. Or if you have access to a person that can get you some timic. Timic is very powerful. If you use it wear gloves and a mask. Do not breathe it in. Make little hamburger balls and spread them around your property your coyote problem will be over. Keep all pets and esspecialy dogs away from it. They will die also.

Good Luck!

Thank you sooo much! Is Blue Marblin the brand? Sorry to sound like an ***** :) Who would I ask about timic?

Go online to Predatormasters.com and post your problem there. There are many members there from Ohio that will jump at the chance to take out your coyotes . Jim

Gail,

Try the fly bait it works. Don't even think about inquiring about Timix. It is a controlled substance and you must be licenced to legally have it. You might rather have the coyotes than the feds breathing down your neck. Another thing I have used is go find ocean sponges. You can find them in a lot of different stores. They are actual ocean sponges. They are tough as all get out but you need to cut them into the size of your fist. Or maybe just a bit bigger than that. Soak those in blood. Lay them out where you think the coyots will travel. They will find them and try to eat them but will not be able to chew them up. They will eventually swallow them whole. They can't pass them through their system. They will eventually back up and die. That is a coyote death that makes my heart sing!!!!!!!!!

Add a RF motion dector to your bait pile, this way you dont have to stay and wait. Sold on ebay for about 20 bucks as a driveway alarm. I use night vision, but i have had some come in when you could use a regular rifle. This method has resulted in 31 dead past 5 years.

A fawn bleat at daylight works great. You must be down wind from where you expect them to come from. If you have help put someone 75 - 100 yards up wind.

This may sound cruel but a treble hook embeded in meat works.

Use of poisons is illegal in most ststes. Timec (a cotton pesticide) is a 3 time killer. It kills what eats it, then what eats the first animal dies, then what eats the second animal dies. It is very toxic and I would not recommend using it. Be careful, you don't want trouble with the law. The most effective, safe and generally legal way to catch coyotes is with snares. Place them in areas you find they are traveling. Use deer-stops on them to prevent snaring wild deer. Remember snares are indiscreminate killers and your neighbor's dogs could become the victims.

Thank you all :) I am going to try to bait them.

Deerchaser: Yes the hook sounds cruel - but that's the way I like it when it comes to coyotes :) They are cruel little bast*ards.

RTT whitetails: Wow!!! 31? I have to ask a stupid question - what is a RF motion detector?

rimrockranch: I hear ya! my heart would be singing too :) Does it matter what kind of blood? Beef, chicken? Anykind OK? Of course, not my own!! LOL

Scott: I will stay away from the timec - thanks!

Gail,

Chicken or beef blood will work equally well. You might check with some local meat processors for beef blood. I'm not sure where you could find chicken blood.

Heed what Scott and I have said about the poisons. Though they work extremely well, you don't want trouble with the law.

I have only killed a handful of coyotes, and luckily I didn't have any at the deer farm, but one thing I would worry about when using snares-won't those coyotes make terrible noises when hung up? I would worry about a snared coyote causing more stress on my deer than a free one.

My2girls, RF motion is a radio freqency alarm. The bad thing with a bait pile is it takes your time to have to watch it waiting for the coyote. Ebay has them for about 20 bucks. They are two small boxes that run on batteries, put one on the bait pile, the other inside your home. If anything moves at the bait a signal is sent to the unit inside your house and an alrum sounds off. You go about as normal until alarm sounds then by by coyote. The device is sold as driveway alarms has a range of about 300 feet.

I can't wait to put a bullet thru their nasty little heads :)

Gail, I love it! Me and Mitch must have been abad influence on you.

BTW How did the move/job situation turn out? Noticed you logged in out of Ohio still.

Reed - LOL!! Yes you and Mitch have been a terrible influence on me :)

I will send you a message regarding the move - thanks for asking :)

Hope all is well with your babies!

As far as the coyotes - I have spoken with a few friends who are jumping at the chance to camp out on my 4acres and kill em' some coyotes :) I'm game!!

But I really would love the chance to shoot one!
