gravy train about a bowl every day .they won't eat cheap dog food I tried but they like gravy train. Also on the driveway alarm take the receiver apart and add 3 ft of thin wire to the antenna if you need more range.

I think I have found the perfect solution for shooting them at home. Bait them under a night light, I use table scraps, with a food they will eat. Once the food starts missing go to walmart a buy a baby monitor with a 6 inch screen and place the camera at the bait pile and the monitor beside your easy chair. Then you can watch TV and check the monitor once in a while.

When wily shows up at the bait pile you simply raise the window and bust him. Be sure the light is between you and the coyote. This will help keep him from seeing the window go up. It works even better if you have a central heat/air unit with the compreesor outside. They get use to hearing it run, so when he shows up make the unit come on and it will drowned out the noise of raising the window.

It may sound cruel but I kill them anyway I can. Between the fly bait and the night light I have wiped them out several times. There will be more drift in after a while but now I have started to enjoy seeing the new tracks because I get to bust them again.

You can check in with any local trappers in the area. We have a predator control program where farmers can have predators trapped or shot by a control expert for free. The DNR picks up the cost for the experts...Not sure if you have a similar program in your area.

Shade cloth around you pens will keep the coyotes from seeing the deer.

About a week ago I was in the deer pen watering when I noticed the does all watching something on the fence line about forty yards away. On the other side of the shade cloth something was running along the fence. I heard it go thru some weeds and turn the corner to go around the pen. when it ran by a gate that didnt have shade cloth on it I could see that it was a coyote. All the deer just watched, Not one got excited. I have coyotes howling around my place all the time and havnt had any issues since the shade cloth has been put up.

Besides I believe that the coyotes help to control CWD by disposing of sick and dead infected deer.

Watch your bait piles, because feeding them actually helps the pack grow. Try chicken livers mixed with fly bait. Just make sure your dogs or neigbors pets don't get into it

My neighbors dogs seem to like the fly bait. It works very well on them also. If they want them they should not allow them to roam. The odd thing is when you ask them to keep them from roaming they do nothing but when they missing they tend to control the rest of them. I had one man to tell me that his dogs did not roam, funny the next week he was knocking on doors saying they had not come home!

Happy belated Thanksgiving all!!

In regards to the coyotes, I hear them all the time - freaks me out. I did have one sitting in tall grass watching my deer. I only noticed him after Nina was on "alert" and started stomping her legs. I looked in the direction she was looking and sure enough there it sat watching her as she watched it. By the time I made it through the house and out to the front - as soon as it saw me it ran down the trail. Whenever the coyotes are around and yapping my dogs let me know. Still, I hate those things and would not feel bad AT ALL about killing them - however it needs to be done!

Thank you sooo much! Is Blue Marblin the brand? Sorry to sound like an ***** :) Who would I ask about timic?

Blue Marlin works really good. You should be able to find it at your local farm & home store. One word of caution, though-I have a 5-gallon bucket of it I've been whittling away at for the last four years, and this year it got some rain water in it, sort of made a blue syrup, so I mixed that with about 3 lbs of raw burger and then put meatballs in sandwich baggies and threw in the freezer, so I would have them handy for strays, etc. Bad mistake...I just sort of forgot about them and the concentrate of poison was so high the burger wouldn't freeze, so now my deer fridge smells like dead fish!

go on trapperman.com put an ad on there for a trapper in your area , maybe one close that would love to come out and trap them . A good yote trapper could put a heck of a dent in them for you

I can get you the shade cloth and clip-it's at a great price, call me if you need some. I also sell a product that is meant to keep noternal animals away, I will explain if you call me, thanks

iv`e had dogs, come an go.baiting them will work for a while. but the owner always buy another dog two replace the one that is missing.then you have the same-o same-o.all over again.if you let the law handle it, the $300 dollar fine works better an the people know you will report them.iv`e had dogs in an out many time an when i told them all.. no dogs running loose around here. it`s the law..most cases they don`t pay attention ..iv`e trap, them got pictures and my dog warden just loves me for helping her do her job.get to know your dog warden and he or she will work for you.it don`t matter what you do.,you are the bad guy.my dog lady said these dog owners just don`t get it.call me anytime...it funny,i have to laugh to myself. i see all kinds of dogs now walking up an down the road by my house with the owner leading them on leaches .some wave an others give me mean look.again the law will work for you.do what ever you have to do for starys, most of them are dumped off.

We don't have any (that I know of) laws in rural areas of our county for dogs :(

Robert

That would be nice but in rural Alabama we have no such laws. Most dogs do not have a collar either. If they can afford to buy a new one then I can afford another bullet. I took a new stance after losing deer to loose dogs. All dogs on my property get shot the first time with no warning. Seems people are getting the message because I see very few loose dogs anymore.

I agree with Deerchaser. The only deer I've ever lost was to a pack of 3 "tame" neighbors dogs. My 30-06 got the biggest and I haven't seen the others back. On a deer farm, the best dog is a dead one. Collars make for a good target.

ya if you dont have the hart for that a little decon on some alpo out side works weel also:eek:

Snares are the answer. You must use a relaxing lock, and they will not harm dogs.

I've caught dozens of dogs, and they are not harmed. Make sure its not close to a low fence where they can get tangled and choke.

There are break away hooks to use where wild deer may get caught, a deer can break free but a coyote can not. I don't have any experience with these break aways, but I hear they work.

Snares work 24/7/365, freezing rain will shut them down, but that is the only thing.

With snow on it will be easy to see where the coyotes are running, as the snow gets deeper they are confined to trails, making snaring easy. If the snow crusts its harder to narrow down their travel routes, but if you see a trail that they have used more than once, set it, have patience and you will catch him.

I get mine from TheSnareShop.com., about a $1.50 each plus stake. Good luck! Jamie

Last night I noticed something had tripped my motion detector lights in my driveway. As I was looking out to see what had tripped them, I noticed a dog on my porch just outside of my sliding glass doors that were slightly ajar for a couple of outdoor cats that have food on the porch. He had his back to me and it's tail had almost no hair on it making it look like a pointer. I opened the door to see if I could figure out whose dog it was (we've been having problems with one neighbors dogs) when the dog turned to look at me I saw that it was no dog at all. It was a coyote!! Right on my door step!!! And one with mange at that. I yelled to Mike and he grabbed his gun and went out to look for it. It got away this time. We've already shot 3 or 4 in the past couple of months, one walking right across the driveway down to the barn yard in the middle of the day. That was his last stroll across our driveway. Anyway just to say they are mighty bold. We are working on cleaning them out one at a time. You know there are way too many when they have mange. Can't even make a good pelt with them.

I would leave the one with the mange. He will give the mange to the others and they will not survive the winter. May sound harsh but I am determine to wipe them out in my area.
