Alright guys I have finally decided I need a dart gun just in case I need to put someone to sleep in a hurry for any reason. I have been looking at Pneu-darts model 389 cartridge fired rifle but for some reason the model X-caliber gauged projector keeps catching my eye? The price difference is crazy though. Is the X-Caliber really that much better to offset the cost difference? any opinions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jake

I have a buddy with the 389 but one big thing I was wondering is if with it being much quieter (virtually silent) would it not get all of the deer in the pen spooked like the 389 does because of the charge going off?

Rifle choice is a lot like anything else. Personal pref. However there simply is no denying the X Cal is quieter. Many times over the years I had multiple shot opportunity because of the X Cal. Having used the 22 cartridge style, the air pump up style and the X Cal my pref is hands down the X Cal. However yes price is a factor. But I also feel the benefits of the X Cal may well have saved me money to have paid for itself also. If you can get off multiple shots and not have to stir up the herd as much it could make a diff between a death/injury or an easy day of darting.

The $289 dollar Co2 rifle and pistol has done the job for me for years. No need to spend Xcal kind of cash unless you have a big herd and do a pile of darting. I can go thru 4 guns for the price of one but after like 5 years and pushing 100 animals i still have the same $ 289 dollar gun.  You just need to weigh your needs to Ok the price.

Have used both the pump air rifle and the xcaliber extensively. If you practice with the air rifle you will get very proficient with it and it will do the job most every time. If you can afford it, the xcaliber is definitely an upgrade. Amazing accuracy even out to 40 or 50 yards if you practice with it. If you miss with either, the xcaliber's quieter shot will give you a better chance at a follow up shot.

A "Calm' Herd is a plus and spend what you will................But remember "COST" is what everyone has to factor into any decision an Upgrade of a $1,000 plus could be the difference between a Profitable year and a Wish I had that Grand back later!
