Does anyone know of any Ag lenders that we could use in MI to borrow against an operating deer farm? Looking for approximately $1M.

It has traditionally been hard to get loans for deer farms. Banks have gotten a lot tighter with their lending than before so it is even more difficult. If you know of a bank that will work with farmers you might try it - or a local community bank.

I would sure start with a local community bank and make every effort to stay away from the large holding company institutions. I was told my operation was worth less than the ground it stood on because if I defaulted on a loan they'd have to pay someone to clear the land to make it "normal". Good luck!

My guess is you will not find anyone willing to loan you money unless it is a private investor who has an interest in deer, or wants part of the business. We went through this a long time ago and quickly realized banks only will lend you money if you really don't need it.

My bank here in PA loaned me the money to get started? I just got out of college and had good credit from a couple previous loans. I put together a business plan and showed them the money I would make and they thought it was a great idea. Here it is a year later and they are already payed off. If I wanted a 50,000 buck, they would hand it right over. You cant just go ask for the money.. You have to put it on paper and have ALL your expenses and incomes and everything mapped out. Maybe you will have better luck doing that.
