I have a doe that came from auction. Yesterday I noticed her ears were both laid back, she seemed very disoriented, dizzy and kept shaking her head. Any idea what this could be and if there is anything that I can do?

was she knocked out for transport?

I can't think of the name of the product but there is a treatment for shipping fever

Inner ear infection is a good thought, is she tame enough to look into her ear canal? I would be concerned with a foriegn body in the ear canal or even some head trauma. Just a thought.

I have seen necro show up in the nodes at the base of the ear and effect the ear, tongue and facial muscles, a good dose of draxxin with a followup of nu-flor can't hurt

Hasn't been sedated since early spring. I would have to sudate her to take a look. But it's almost like she's got brain damage. Gonna have to knock her out and take a look. Just wondered if anyone had a though or if there was anything going around that mimics these symptoms.

If she is starting to pass dark brown urine that would confirm post capture myopathy (PCM).If it is PCM it is serious & usually fatal.Prevention is the best cure.Avoid severe exertion & psychological stress (terror),during handling & transport.Discuss the use of long acting neuroleptics with your vet when subjecting your animals to potential stress. Hope its some thing simpler. Please let us know how it goes so we can all learn. Cheers Sharkey

I don't believe it to be stress induced. She is mildly tame. Transported like a dream. And has not been sudated since spring when she came here. I will be handling her today to see if I can get to the bottom of it. But I don't have the best feeling about it.

Sorry, from your first post I assumed she had just arrived. If she has been there for several weeks it shouldn't be PCM.Best of luck! Sharkey

I had a young doe last year with those exact symptoms. I gave her a shot of Bose and a shot of b12. The Bose has selenium wich I feel she was lacking and was was the cause of her acting dizzy. After giving her the shots the next day she was much better and made a full recovery. Hope this helps.

where do you get the ( bose ) and how much did you give her?

I gave 2cc but i'm not a vet so might want to contact your vet first.

Buckstop,

this is actually the wrong time of year, but what about a meningial worm? Has she been wormed recently? If not, get her 2cc of ivormectin PLUS.

I had a doe fawn once act drunk, staggering and drooling. I gave her a shot of ivormec and within 12 hours there was an improvement. Within 36 hours she was good as new.

I would still give her a good dose of antibiotics as well.

Good Luck.
