I'm new to deer farming bought 10 bred does this past Feb. I noticed on one of my ladies that she has 2 white spots on her side, at first i thought it was just ruffled fur, then yesterday i got a good look at it. It's 2 raised spots bout the size of golf balls protruding from the skin!...any ideas on what it might be or how to treat it? Thanks

Could be warts or a lot of different things....like Michael said pictures really help for a diagnosis.......if you can post some pics it will help us give you our opinions. Good LUck!!

LOL...ok! I'll try!!! I've got 3 bottle babies and the rest are very stand offish! I've got'em in a 1 1/2 acre pen with woods and they keep their distance, mostly in the woods. I'll trap them in the pen closest to the house and maybe be able to get a pic from the window. Was hoping everyone would say "Oh, I know whats wrong!" The spots just appeared in the past 4 to 5 day's. Looks like you cut a golf ball in half and glued them to her side...Could it be parasites? Will post more and HOPEFULLY with pictures!

yes, they protrude from the skin like those pic's...i feed them some bread this a.m. and when she got close i pulled down the shade cloth to look at her and then she ran. I got a decent look at them, they looked almost bloody not sticking out as far today. So, now they've went from snow white and sticking way out, to bloody and flatter today. Have kids ball games this p.m. will try and get pic!!

My guess would be a papalomus !! Dark in color and has a tecture of basketball ??

Mitch, what can you do about them? We have had a few and they fall off or we lance them. Anything else we can do?

I had a doe that had the warts everywhere on her body a few years back. I used a cattle wart vaccine on her and they all fell off in a few months. Not sure if that was the cure or not. But I'm sure glad they were gone.

Well you can remove them but they may just come back !! I`ve just left them alone and normally by fall the deer start to lick and chew on em and the next thing they are gone !! They are just ugly to look at but won`t hurt the deer !!

Thanks for the reply's...It was warts they came off about a week or 2 after posting. I had a friend to come out and look at them and he told me it was warts. I've got another one with 3 smaller warts on her. Could it be something in the ground causeing the warts?

Thanks

Barry
