I have 6 year old doe, she started squinting her eyes liked the glare would be getting to her.

Could this doe be having trouble seeing?

Have you been darting deer in her pen or have you darted her recently? I have older doe that squint when they see the dart gun. They also squint sometimes when in pain. Is there any drainage from the corners of her eyes or are her eyelids swollen? Their eyelids often swell when they have EHD. I hope that isn't the case.

I have a five year old buck on my place that has squinted all the time since he was a fawn. Named him Squint.

I personally have never seen an EHD affected deer show the only symptom as eye squinting. I've seen eyes swell, but always accompanied by other, more telling, symptoms.

I had a doe that was six years old and she did that as a fawn.  She was never darted because we ran them thru a chute!  She was totally fine just a habit.  I know a few of her fawns did it as well!  JIM

I have only had two older doe that squinted. They started the behavior later in life at around 8 years old. One was my white#9 and the other a doe named Pumpkin. If I carried a stick into the pen that looked like a gun, they would start squinting and blinking. They were not kin to each other and are the only doe I ever have had do it. I had them before we had our handling facility and they were darted often.

Thanks for all the comments guys. She does not show any other signs of anything and has always been a Hardy Gal, She survived EHD , Foot Rot, Pneumonia A busted up jaw from hitting the fence one time but always bounced back strong.

Hopefully she will be OK Because there is a Straw of Rolex waiting for her.

Squinting

I've Been searching the net for an answer and this seems to be close, I have a doe that's been coming around for several years, since she was a fawn she came with her mom every day for Years now. These are wild deer I have a farm I've feed them for years. Its kind of my PTSD therapy, I can't handle people, being around them is so calming for me,any way, this one doe comes every day, she listens to commands like wait , comes when I call her ect. She even bumps into me form time to time. My point she is very comfortable with me, only me. If someone new is around she keeps her distance or runs.she recognizes me cause I've had to take off sun glasses to calm her . when she comes she squints ,only when she's with in a few feet of me, an only when she looks at me ,when her heads down eating she doesn't or when she's far away. There's no sign she's in pain ,she just dropped a fawn. I know cause she brought it in and it laied by me while she ate. So what is she doing? Like I said I read your post none of it fits. We have a coyote problem and I've stood near them with a gun when I seen a coyote they put me between them and it and watch they seem to know what the gun is but act a little nervous but don't run. I'm not a deer farmer and I don't hunt them. Its just puzzling, I know what most of their tail flicks mean by watching them so often and just being around them but this I can't figure out any ideas???
