Have a two year old doe that is dog tame. She has a cough and has yellow drainage out of her nose i have wormed her with Noromectin and safe guard pellets and tryed pour on. and give her a shot of baytril,deximethisone,la200.She is a little thin she also lost her fawn it was her first it was small and did not act right and did not live very long any hep would be appreciated.

Wow - 3 wormers, 2 antibiotics, and 1 immune system suppressant.....that is quite an overload to her already weakend system. Give her probiotics immediately, to try and help buffer the shock to her system/guts of all those meds.

There are several posts on here discussing mixing drugs and over-doing treatments. Take a look at some of those so that you don't mix things that don't go together in the future.

Thanks for your help but I always give probiotics after all antibiotics. Furthermore, the antibiotics were given at 2 week intervals and not together.

The dexamethasone was given after the antibiotics and she had a cough but didn't have yellow mucus in her nose.

Also I worm my deer once a month in the hot wet months and once every 6=8 weeks otherwise.

That is why I was asking for sincere help.

Dereck,

Robbie is attempting to give you sincere help. She is (in my opinion) one of the best at trying to help and quite good at it!

Perhaps when you are asking for advice/help it would be in your best interest to provide all the background such as how you gave the medicines. This would allow one to provide you some sincere help based on the facts as you've presented.

Most of us are not vets, but some, like Robbie, have a wealth of experience.

Best of luck with your doe.

John, thanks.

Dereck, your original post reads as if you gave her all of that at one time. John is right, a timeline and specific details make all of the difference in being able to offer advice.

What is the most recent treatment you have administered, and when?

Have you been able to take her temperature?

What is her appetite like?

What is her stool like, pellets, toothpaste, scours....?

Sorry if you feel like I jumped on you, but had you, or anyone, given a deer all those meds at one time, you/they need to be jumped on. Now that we have more facts and know that you did not overload her, lets try to figure out how to help you and your doe.

Seems to me, in place of the dex for respiratory issues, maybe a dose of excenell or NuFlor would be more appropriate, and I don't care if you believe my recommendations are sincere or not.

Scott,

My thoughts exactly... I was about to offer my opinion until the lad jumped on Robbie the way he did. I say let him figure out his problems on his own if he doesnt know how to show respect to someone trying to help him....

.

Robbie i am sorry if you feel like i jumped at you i do apologize.I should of give more info.I am kinda stressed about this one it is one of our favorite deer because she is such a sweet heart my kids like to go up to her and hug and pet her and they even put sun glasses on her.Any ways her stool is good (pellets) and the last thing i gave her was dexamethasone friday she is not eating as good as the other does I haven't tried to take her temp i will try tomorrow. Also when she cough's i it sounds kinda loose.I am sorry for any problems.I am just trying to get some help.

I agree with Scott, Nuflor or Excenell are my first choice for BRD meds that aren't too hard on the liver. However, this might be a case for Draxxin. It sounds like her respiratory infection is fairly advanced, based on the drainage and other symptoms you describe. Banamine if you find she has a fever. Vitamins, B Complex in particular. Probiotics.

I can relate to being stresssed out, we have all been there. Water under the bridge, let's just try to get your girl the help she needs.

Good luck.

Im a BIG nuflor Fan for respitory, it fast acting, and i seen it save couple on death bed , but this is only Dc,s opinion:eek: GOOD DOSE and stick to it,for few days!! DC Robbie, I cant Imagine you stressing, could be dangerous! Dc Ps, i havent saw one to the point to where mucus come out.So Just a thought.

Only dangerous for Brad :D. He calls me his "humming bird on speed" when things get wound up!

I purchased the Nuflor today from my vet and used it on my doe. How many days do you recommend giving the medication.

Thanks for your help. I will keep you posted on her progress.

Dereck

I say minimum 3, up to 5, depending on her progress. Don't forget the probiotics.

Good luck, and let us know how it's going.

Treatments OR days?? i agree depending on progress but i think it gonna have to be aggressive, 3 to 5 treatments Good Dose,my thinking,DC

Just thought i would let every one know that my doe is doing better.I am not hearing her cough anymore and i do not see any drainage.

Glad to hear she is doing better. Good Job getting her back in shape.
