I have a mature pie doe that all winter long has been loosing a lot of hair. Both of her sides are almost completely gone. It looks very similar to how they grow their summer hair. She came from a very unheatlhy farm and I lost the one doe that came from the same place and don't want to loose her too.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks Kari

Also, are the other does picking on her? They can and will strip off hair in an attempt to show whos boss. If this is not the case you might offer mineral in some form in case it's being caused by a deficiency.

deer have a pecking order just like chickens, Like tracy said, could be fighting, my does are doing this right now and Im noticing chunks of hair missing. good luck.

No, it's definitely not othr deer doing it. Infact she is the only mature deer in that pen. Yes, she has regularly been wormed. This isn't patches or spots. She is almost bald.

Thats crazy! no hair with the cold winter were having, sorry too here about that but you may have answered your own question when you said the deer came from a very unhealthy farm, a poor diet can do alot of harm, mitch P lives in ohio im sure he could help ya, give him or robbie a call.

How do you know it's not the other deer?

Fawns will sometimes pull others hair...

This is another possibility but I am trying to think of everything it could be a chicken or horse lice if they had them around....or even a fungus you could take a scraping to the vet and have them look at it.

If she is as bad as you say and if she is tame.

I would consider a barn, a horse blanket, or putting her down...It is mighty cold

I am sorry you had suck a bad experience...Piebalds are great...

I am so sorry you had to have that happen to yours.

Can you post a picture?

Have you contacted the place you got her?

Call if you want and we can try and talk through things to try....

You are in Ohio and I consider you all VERY LUCKY you have one of the best deer vets in your state His name is

I have a doe,her name is Eve, she's our "pet", she was the first deer born on our farm 9 years ago, she loves to be with us and craves attention. every year since she was born she has barbered the hair off her sides, we have wormed with 4 or 5 different wormers tried different feeds, hay, grass or multiple combinations of them but she always ends up with racing stripes.....cold ....they get a little pink at 40 below

We had a buck fawn almost loose all of his hair one year for no reason, then it just grew back, and has never done it again??????

One of our mature does has lost more than normal hair around her neck this year, dont know why this happens, but always grows back.

Well, that makes me feel a little better to hear that it happens with no apparent complications. Shane, I will post a pic however to see what you think. It's a matter of remembering the camera when I go out to feed...lol I don't exactly look forward to going out in this cold and feet of snow. Thanks for all the help

I also have a doe fawn who is losing her hair in patches. It comes out and it looks like dry skin or dandruff. The spots are the size of golf balls. The spots are bald. She has been wormed and is extremely tame. Her health is fine. Nothing wrong with her except hair loss. Could this be from her diet?
